Joanmary is alive and well

and I sat next to her at the Rain Barrel demo! I let her know everybody was looking for her and it was like she dropped off the face of the planet!

Well my first hunch was correct. Grandma Joanmary travels to San Fran and NY to see those grandbabies of hers. Oh, and her computer fried. She does still garden but has no room for more plants so wasn't interested in the upcomming swaps. I told her to come for the food and she looked at me like "what an absurd idea." It was great to see her and she's off traveling again in 2 weeks.

Thanks Kristi, I have missed Joanmary so much! Hopefully she will have an opportunity to pop in soo and say hellp. She is a fantastic gardener and shares so freely her knowledge. I am glad she is well and happy!

Maryann, There's nothing wrong with being obsessed about something that's so nice as Baltimore Checkerspots! :) I hope they would like the habitat that we have here. It's rural but not real rural. We live along a road that gets pretty much traffic and our neighbors are just on the other side of our driveway, so even though it's considered rural it doesn't always feel that way, especially when the neighbor's dog barks almost all the time. :( I'm really sorry that you don't think you can transplant the BCs there at your place. So you bring the cats home to raise and then release the butterflies there at your place, right? Do you mean that they don't stick around after you release them? I don't know how big your backyard is, so it's hard to tell if you could keep them there or not. Well, besides, it's not like I'm an expert. I sure wish it would work out for you though. I think you might have said before, but could you describe what the area is like where you go to collect the BC cats? You say they like a marshy area. Isn't that where a lot of water stands? Now I'm wondering what the different is between a marsh and a swamp? Is there standing water where you go for the cats? Is the vegetation real soggy that you sink into mud? Is it an area that gets mowed or is it let natural? I'm just trying to decide if our little 1/8 acre field would suit the BCs. It borders a creek and is wet in the spring that you can't walk in it without sinking into the mud and losing your shoes. lol When summer comes along, though, the field dries up. So I don't know if the butterflies would like it there or not. I plan on planting the plants there that I mentioned above, and I also want to plant some Swamp Milkweed there for the Monarchs. Eh Gads this darn crickets!! My dog is too dumb to go after them and the cat is too old! I am trying to encourage the birds to come around by placing bowls of wild bird food around. Its my hope they will eat the crickets! We'll see!! Drew is doing ok...trying to adjust to a whole new school envoirment and such. He is a pretty adaptable kids so I think he'll be ok. He doesn't mind taking the bus! It picks him up right at the corner so I can watch him from the lanai while I sit in my bathrobe with my coffee-much better than schlepping him to and fro! Amy will not be coming home as much this year as her school is over an hour away and now that she is back into her school routine and dance routine she is pretty busy. YES she is working the Eagles games again this year so who knows which celebs she'll see this time!! My commute is not all that bad...its about 35 minutes most days and a little less when I go in early or leave late...best to avoid the rush hours!! I am considering switching stores...being that the stores in NJ are a different union, I would lose my seniority and pay if I transfer to a NJ store however there is a store in South Philly which is right off the closest bridge to me...it would take roughtly 15=20 minutes from here. Plus I am friends with the co manager there-in fact he already knows I was thinking about the transfer LOL!! But I want to wait until Frank gets transferred to a NJ store at his night job-then I will switch Drew to a NJ store...he is the last in seniority now so he won't be losing anything plus he can ride his bike to work-something he could never think of doing in Philly!! Can I just say I am LOVING my new kitchen!! Its an eat in kitchen LARGE and even with my dining table there is tons of room to groove. The lady who owned the house had the kitchen done about 3 years ago and while in the throws of the work, must have gotten sick and stopped her work and put the house up for sale. So while we looked at this house we noticed several large boxes in the garage maked Thomasville-the same maker of the kitchen cabinets. After we moved in we noticed the boxes are still there!! Seems she ordered more cabinets and for whatever reason just didn't install them. So once we get settled we are going to rip into these boxes and see what we can do with this FIND!! I did find navy blue curtains to do with my color scheme so its coming together nicely. I also found a nice living room group on Raymour and Flanigan. Its small and tailored and I think it will fit. The living room is only 11 ft wide so finding something nice and small is proving to be a challange. Since we have the downstairs family room to kick back in the living room will now be a semi formal space. So I think a little creative planning will be in order!! I will post pics real soon!! Cheers! Hi Susie, good to see ya. My first thought was a seafood mousse. Seemed like it was the most required dish for any New Orleans party. Lots of people make it in a nice decorative mold, and of course it's made ahead so that's good. I like to served it with toasted rounds of french bread, and those can be made ahead too. Or serve with crackers or party breads, etc. I'm talking about the shrimp and/or crab mousse with cream cheese, cajun spice, seafood broth[some use condensed soup but I use broth from shrimp shells], gelatin. Makes a nice soft spreadable mousse. If you need a recipe, let me know how many you're cooking for and I'll work out one. Pickled shrimp or bbq shrimp are also common and easily made ahead. I also used to make a lot of seafood cheesecakes when catering down there.

Bob's story is long. As I understand it, he was having health problems and decided to retire. He was looking for something to do and took up growing hostas in his shady hillside garden in Chillicothe, Ohio. Well, the exercise and healthy living was a great thing for Bob. He outlived his first wife, married again, and is still doing hostas. Pat and I haven't visited Bob for several years so I thing a visit is in the works after daylily season.

It was really good to see you Kristi. Despite you telling me off, royally! :) It was a most informative lecture wasn't it. John, the new Agent has certainly shaken the Co-op up! Unbelievable! All very positive though. The computers certainy were rather strangers when I was there last. Now MG's can answer the queries from their home computers! Amazing and about time.... Today was the first time I've returned to the office in years!
Kristi, weekend get-togethers just don't work for me, so I miss many great pleasures. During the week is much better for me, but not everyone can be free then either, I know. Not really gardening much right now, just trying to keep from being 'taken over'! Just been a busy time all round. I look forward to when our daughter & fam returns to the east coast. Very tired of tripping over to San Fran. Truth to tell, its not my favourite place in the world. The twists and turns of every hilly corner reminds my constitution of some horrible storms at sea. Just not my cup of tea! Beautiful place scenically and good wine spots; delightful shopping places with lots of little coffee cafe's too. Yes a nice visiting experience, all round. Just please, not those hills!

Hello Cindee and Nancy. Cindee I still owe you some plants. Do you know, I've tried time and time again to get the P. Lady M. to root. Not once have I been successful! I've given up. But....I've some seeds of P.Edulis McCain (Logees.com) self fertilizing and fruiting after 1 year! I'm in the process of drying some seeds of P. Inspiration (fragrant and butterfly food) so they too should be ready in about a week. I've also some seeds, just ripened of Telosma Cordata (fragrance of a mix of roses and Violets) just ripened. So I could 'settle my dept' with some seeds? Yes?? :) Or cuttings: If you are in Ft. L. during the week(s), give me a call. Do you still have my number?

How are you Nancy? I bet all your gardens are as full as mine right now! Thank heavens for the rain... that was a long dry spell, and being away my DH ...I think....only watered a couple of days before I returned... with the obvious results...dried up 'somethings' in pots!

As Kristi mentioned, I have a new computer with none of the old info. Delighted to be able to use a decent machine again, but all info lost due to a crash on the last one. Hopefully this will last me a few years! If there is a get-together during the week, please do let me know. I'd be delighted to say hello - yes I know I've been a horrible stranger....Hey Kristi....I heard that. (laughing)

(((((((((((Joanmary))))))))))) m'dear you have been dearly missed!! You know I am having swap Sept 2nd (which IS on a Sunday) but it rolls over to a Garden Tour on MONDAY (a week day) to Lady's, Barbcoleus and hopefully other gardeners with tours of their gardens.

You owe me plants??? NO WAY! What could you possibly owe me?
Your Subarosa is Super! I have it growing up a staff and the butterflies love it and my mockingbirds espicially love it's fruit.

It is so great to hear from you. I have to tell you, getting ready the day befor Ricky's swap last may...I was loading up the car with my plants. Neighbor came over as Dennis and Dan were helping me. Neighbor asked Dennis if he was going to the swap too and he said "nooooo". There's only one I would ever go to again." Dan his son piped up and said "The Lady Cindee likes so much who's husband is a man with boats. Dad had the best time!!" LOL Love ya gal-be well and happy and stay in touch! Hello, Joanmary, it is so good to hear from you. I am glad you are well and a grandma now too. Congrats on that. ;o) If you are ever in the area with Richard's meetings again, you'll have to swing by. Maybe this time we'll even take the time to eat lunch. lol
