Well, CTC, as usual, I have bought many tulips and quite a large number of daylilies.

I don't have but one rose I want, and that one would replace a "vole kill" . But even though the daylily sites are ready, I still have a lot of work to do.

Today I akm feeding, watering and weeding.

I can't tell you how long my shopping list is cause it wouldn't fit on this forum but suffice it to say, I have ordered enough daylilies for this fall anyway. I have also added a number of colorful heucheras, heucherellas, hostas and sedum to my gardens. A few fall bulbs, tulips and daffs and lots of irises. Planting, planting, planting! And I love it, love it, love it! :) And at night when everything is quiet and I'm exhausted from the day in the garden, I am on the computer adding to my wish list for the next ten years! :) Happy Fall shopping everyone!

I would like to buy daylilies of course, but I'm out of room and money is an issue too. I have a voucher from a nursery though, but I really don't want anything. Maybe an astilbe or two, I like them a lot, but they don't seem to thrive here.

Nat, I'm totally with you. I tutor for flower money lol, but didn't this summer, so I'm really working to scrape together a budget, and practically dance when I can find extra. :)

I already ordered spring bulbs to arrive in the fall earlier this year so I don't have to do that. But I really probably will order some more as I do really love tulips and daffodils. They give me that extra early bloom season and then after that the TB iris bloom and then the daylilies. So it all works out well.

I have bought some Davisson intros for fall and also have four Westbourne intros coming this fall. Then I am looking forward to when some of my favorite hybridizers announce their 2012 intros this fall as I hope to find room to get just a few. Who am I kidding? I just know I will be buying some LOL!

Manure, lots of manure, composted of course to top dress all the raised beds and mix in with the 2 small new beds to be dug in 3 weeks.I did brake down and do 2 small orders of DLs. 3 from Maryott's and 3 from Roycrofts. Gone Fishing, All American Beauty,and Flamingo Parade from M's. Eyes of Distinction, Frank Gladney, and Real Wind from R's. I will be getting Doyle Pierce as the promo bonus from Maryott's. One of the new beds is for Coral Pinks, the other is for purples and lavenders. An old bed is going to be re dug for better pinks. All will eventually get a full compliment of companion plants, some from divides from other spots in the garden, some new. Can't wait to get at it. Sept. 10 starts the "Big Dig".

I'm taking a fall vacation along the New England coast & my budget is limited for plants this year. I see where Maryotts has Pineapple Moon as its extra bonus right now. I really like the color, & they have a couple (or actually several) I would like to have. I may give in...
But really shouldn't. I'll be getting about 10 new daff varieties & have to pay for those. Daylilies are my real love, but daffs are so pretty in spring.

I usually plant only in spring, but I have three Davisson intros coming this week, and I've had my eye on these for a while: High Water Mark, Rev It Up and (I think) Dancing on Daddy's Feet. Can you believe I forgot to write down what I ordered?

My DL order is coming first week of October (I posted it in a previous thread). May also be getting some plants on club order, but I have to make sure I'm not hogging too much garden space. I also got a couple new ones from a local hybridizer as a door prize on Sunday.

I might also spring for a couple of iris and hippeastrum, depending how much birthday money I get. :p

When Houston Garden Center goes 75% off next month, there's no telling what else we'll end up trying.

I am trying not to bring anything else home after my auction run, because I need to work on the next step of the raised bed this week to put all the plants in that are sitting potted in the back yard. Too much to do already! But Dad is renovating his gardens and I keep having things sent home with me when I go to help him move plants. (Here take a piece of this)-so this week I have wandered home with Siloam Art Work, Mary's Baby, Outback Red, Jedi Tequila Sunrise, and Margaret Estell. As well as large clumps that he is evicting and I'm dividing them for coworkers that wanted some flowers.

Hey, that all sounds like a very good deal. Better get busy on those new daylily beds LOL!

I HAD to have Victorian Gardens Heavens Applause. I needed a patterened TET to go with my program. I already had some great patterned dips and I THOUGHT I had a TET as a bonus, but it was marked wrong. I'm glad I'm getting it in this Fall so it will bloom next year. Then BLAM! I'm stealing it's pollen! *smile*

When you say, "hogging space" do you mean from other plants, or do you share a garden and have to leave space for someone else's plants ("I have no idea how daylilies suddenly appeared between all of the plants in YOUR half of the garden..garden gnomes?")

wren-garden, the big dig sounds fun. Lol. I'm waiting for my husband to have an evening off, so I can hand him the baby and work, rather than doing things in 3 minute spurts as I race back and forth, pulling succulent leaves out of her mouth and trying to reposition her where she can be happy and curious without trying to eat everything. ;)

Lisa, ooh, free plants from dad. That has to be fun to both be interested in the same thing! I have had more fun exchanging plants this summer, in big part because it's great to "talk shop" with other plant lovers!

CTC ~ I just got word that my new sub is Raspberry Winter. Was hoping for Spiritual Corridor but both are beautiful. At this time a lot are going in pots until my DH finishes digging the other bed. The daylililes are just as happy in pots. :)

My Aunt gave my Dad daylilies about 12-15 years ago when she was dividing her flower beds. Then he shared some of the first set with me and added more and over that time, it has gone from a few plants to a major project. Both Auntie and Dad do garden tours and sell plants, and do some hybridizing. Sometimes they trade with each other, or other growers to get really nice things. I hate asking for pieces of the expensive ones because they are trying to sell them, but every now and then Aunt Fran sends a piece home for me with Dad and Dad 'pays' me for being the garden slave with pretty flowers. This summer is a major excavation at his house as he is getting rid of around 100 clumps that either didn't do well or just didn't sell well to make room for newer flowers and seedlings.

I have a strip of grass where I can put maybe 5, but my DH can't dig it so I'll have to do it myself, a little bit at a time, and it won't be ready this year. I also tried to sell a few (plus other plants) on craigslist, but nobody got interested.

When I say "hogging space" I mean several things. :)

We have a limited amount of garden space, and I don't want to be filling it all up with DLs when there are other good plants too. And my wife has some things that she'd like to plant, so I can't be using it all to put in things I want. And I'd rather not put in things that I only sort of like this year when I might like something even better next year. And I'll need some space for my relatively small but still space-consuming hybridization. And the DL and iris clumps we already have will continue to get bigger.

So that's a lot to consider! Some things will die or underperform and get moved out, but for the most part, the gardens will only grow more full. And I'm not ready to have the kind of house where there is only enough grass in the yard to walk in between the gardens!

Ooooh, very wise. I do have to say that I'm getting so much better at not "settling" for a flower I only kind of wanted, in leiu of one I had really wanted and couldn't get. :)

I am not getting anything for Fall but I am on a waiting list to get Barney for Spring. I don't know if I should thank or blame Rita for all her pictures of Barney. Here is a picture from the place I am getting it. I took the picture this summer.

I've got to buy a lot of replacements, since I've lost 37 daylilies from crown rot this summer. I won't bore you all with the replacement list, but I am very excited about winning UPGRADE, EENIE MEENIE JELLYBEANY, GILDED BUTTERFLY, CHANG DYNASTY, DUKE ELLINGTON, HAPPY HAPPY, ABILENE LILLIAN, ABILENE STRAWBERRY, VOILA FRANCOIS, BELLA ISABELLA and JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS (among others) at the Lily Auction.

Barney does look really nice! I was considering asking to be put on a waiting list for Cat Ballou, but I think it's been a several year waiting list and thought if it increased that slowly, it might not be so good.

JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS is on my list of must haves! Spring will find me marking off that list. :)

I've admired Barney a lot too, looks like a great color. JKO is a pretty one too. Nancy, I'm feeling bad about whining about my crown rot. I've lost more than I like over the last few years. The more I have thought about it, the more I think it is the soil here though. After I started adding compost to the soil to new additions, it has been plants that have been in place for a long time that I have lost. And I haven't lost nearly as many as you! So sorry.
Crackingtheconcrete, thanks for letting me know isn't really that color. I wondered, because I thought at the time, if it isn't that particular color, then I bet it is the color I already have several daylilies.
