Madame Alfred Carriere, monster noisette with wonderful fragrance and no thorns. Will grow up a tree to fifty feet. Does have some very fine prickles under the leaves.

Sally Holmes. Sent by mistake. Nice scent, yellow buds open to pink and fade to white. Prolific bloomer.

Blush Noisette. Another great Florida rose.

A very young Excellenz Von Schubert.

Prosperity. Huge and thorny, but what a lovely bloomer.

Maggie, large flowers, very heavily scented, lovely magenta pink nearly continuous bloomer. Can climb and thorny.

Mrs B R Cant. New one gallon and doing great.

Archduke Charles. Lovely rose, lovely bush. The more I see of this rose the more I like it. He is planted at the point of the triangle bed where I dug out the cycad. To the back and on each side is Blush Noisette and Natchitoches Noisette. (Nak-ah-teesch.)

Many that I have are still too small to take cuttings, but those that are large enough are being attended to.

Nova, I am in love with Cornelia and Celine F. Are you rooting them? (I hope...) Also, do you possibly recognize my Soncy "Not"? I was beginning to think it might be Devoniensis, but that appears to be too pink. Thanks for any help.

Veronica, Love your pictures! You have such lovely blooms and healthy plants. I keep telling myself I have no more room for more roses but I do have a couple who are not performing up to my expectations! I would love to add Mrs B R Cant and Maggie to my collection!

Celine F. is one of my favorites, tho she does try to get leggy, with her pink buds that fade to yellow blooms with the most wonderful scent. Cornelia is new this year, I got her at Seminole Springs as a 3 gallon plant, and is just now putting out her first bloom. She is a sprawling type rose and has tripled in size since I have had her. As soon as she is finished blooming I will try to get some cuttings started.

Can you post a picture of your "Soncy"? I know you did once before but I have forgotten what it looked like.

Soncy "not" is the first pic I posted in the WBIYG thread. I shall be rooting Maggie, a wonderful performer. The Mrs is a young matron, but if I can get one or two going, you get first pick.

Thank you for your compliments and so glad to hear Celine is strongly scented. How is the scent on Cornelia?

What a lovely website, Rozanna! I've been making DH wait for breakfast until I explored it all, LOL. It's good to see a post from you; I like others I'm sure wondered how you were doing. Quite fine, I see. :-) As for chickens, I wish I could have some for bug patrol but we have so many coyotes around here that I don't feel up to the struggle it would take to keep them safe. Had a small flock years ago when we lived in southern Michigan and it was hard enough there fighting off raccoons and stray dogs. Winters here in Michigan are hard on chickens, too. You need a real nice coop for them to stay warm through the long, cold days and nights. Love that photo of the Silver Spangled Hamburg, BTW.

There isn't any way around it, when you spray something to kill something, you're going to kill something else. Pyrethrins aren't any less toxic to bees and is likely more so to other beneficials than Spinosad. For me, the Spinosad makes more sense because I have less slug and far more leaf miner to deal with. And, I just like the idea of it being bacterial than chemical. According to Oregon State University, pyrethrins are toxic to honey bees. If you were to spray at dusk when bee activity is less, you'll probably affect fewer of them, mostly those who try to spend the night in your rose flowers. They're the culprits for my bee stings. They always happen when deadheading and it's always due to my grabbing the bloom to be cut and awakening the sleeping bee. Oregon State says: Pyrethrins are highly toxic to fish and tadpoles. They affect their skin touch receptors and balance organs (4). Ã¯Â¿Â½ Pyrethrins are toxic to beneficial insect (such as honeybees) and many aquatic invertebrates (4). Ã¯Â¿Â½ Pyrethrins are low in toxicity to humans, other mammals, and birds (4). I got a Soncy at the Fall USF Sale. [$6.00] It has some 4+ canes now and has bloomed a three bud spray. They were very fragrant. The buds had pink guard petals and the bloom came out creamy white. As it matured, it changed to a very lovely blush. I was under the impression that Soncy was pale yellow, so I am wondering if that is what I have. The canes are climber-like [the one I have] and the leaves remind me of my noisettes. As I understand, it is very common for plants to be misnamed especially those that have been handed around neighbor to neighbor over the generations. Every where I read, Soncy is listed as a yellow or pale yellow. However, I cannot find any pic except one at HelpMeFind/Roses Here is a link that might be useful: Soncy @ HMF/Roses

I have a plan for those two pine trees. Our drive is just on the other side of them and right past those wonderful looking woods is Knights Griffin Rd. We are not as country as one would think from that photo. My dream is to get those two pines topped at 15 feet, make a very large raised bed over the toxic rubble landfill and grow ginormous climbers spiralling up them and fountaining out on an umbrella-like structure attached to the top. Though it is true that much of the remaining trunks would rot, the stumps we have, that were here when we moved in '01, all have a rigid center section of heartwood or fatwood that is very strong. I already have one of the roses. E Veyrat Hermosa is on the right trellis (in the garden pic above), in a very large pot and is grafted to Fort.

Here's a picture of my modern rose bed. It is a little hard to see the progress it has made in 4 months but it is doing quite well and I'm able to cut some short stem roses.

As soon as I post this I'm going to go plant the Julia Child that I got as a door prize in January as a (just) rooted cutting. It was very small and took some TLC to get it going.

Marcia, I shall pursue that thought and thanks. One of the reasons I so want to identify this wonderful rose is so that I can scratch one off my "must have" list and CS is on it.

I went to HelpMeFind/Roses and the pics of the climbing polyantha, Clotilde Soupert, do not look like mine at all. They are very pink.

However, the pics of the none-climber CS polyantha has many that are very much like mine. Those would be the whitest ones. The one I have did have a pinker bloom when it was somewhat cool here last spring, but it was still very pale white/pink. The fragrance on this one is very good.

I shall now call it Clotilde Soupert "probably".

Thanks to your beautiful rose postings , I have fallen in love with the OGRs . I vowed I would never , ever have roses but after reading about all your luck and seeing the pictures I was converted to a rose lover . Thank you GW Florida rose lovers for helping me to see the light !

Thonotorose, my climbing Clotilde is very white, with only the slightest blush of pink on the edges of the petals and deep inside when it first opens. After it opens out all the way, it is almost completely white. A very "flat" faced rose, highly fragrant. I love it!

Your photo looks exactly like mine, but as I'm sure you know, roses can be deceiving. Temperature and other factors can definitely change the depth of color, for one thing.

Hope you pin it down, so you know whether or not you can mark it off your list.

Veronica, Found the picture of your non-Soncy, and while I agree with Marcia that it could be Clotilde, I just wonder if you have ever compared it with "Spice"? Spice is fairly common in Florida, is nearly thornless and blooms white with a pinkish tint that is more evident in cooler weather. It also has a wonderful "Tea" scent. The only thing that makes me think that it may not be Spice is that my Spice makes a more "shrubby" type bush. Check it out and let me know what you think. Here is a picture of my Spice when it was just a baby -

Cornelia has a wonderful strong scent. The DH has lost alot of his sense of small to chemo but he can smell Cornelia. If you have room for a potted rose and like a good scent another one to consider is Miss Caroline. I got her for my birthday [Feb] and she has been in almost constant bloom ever since. Gatormom, Consider yourself infected! Lol.. Start with the Duchess de Brabant, if you get a chance. Mine is covered with buds and I will be posting a pic when she is just right. Cupped and lovely pink, very fragrant, nearly thornless. Very healthy!

Wow, Laura! Mine is in a 30 gallon tree pot, crammed between the well house and a shed, up against a fence and quite sun deprived. I hope that will hold her down.

Marcia and Susan, I do think that it is CS. One trait is that the bloom edge forms a perfect circle rather then the raggedy edge of your Spice. It is also a white with a shadow of pink at times. In the winter when I first saw the buds they had guard petals that were quite pink and when they opened the center also had a pink cast. And it definitely is a climber, long limber canes all over the place. That spray in the photo had a total of fourteen blooms! And it is a lateral off the first cane the band threw up. I am so excited to see what the REST of the canes do.

I like that Miss Caroline. If she is scented, then she is welcome here.

I'm glad you have made at least a tentative ID, TR. I hate not knowing what I'm growing! Funny, my grandmother was the best gardener I've ever known, yet she didn't know the name of two-thirds of her plants. She only knew the basic ones (azaleas, hydrangeas, etc). The rest were things like "Jessie's Lily" (hosta), Christine's Rose (Louis Phillipe), or "That Fluffy Pink One." We are all so different in how we approach this hobby of ours.

Here are a couple of pics of my Climbing Clotilde Soupert for you. They are a bit overexposed and washed out, but they are the only photos I could find.

You can see they are very white, flat, very round blossoms. The do have some pink deep between the petals, but it doesn't show in this photo. In cooler weather, they are pinker than they are in summer, at least for me.

All this rose gets from me is fertilizer, good soil and water. I do not spray and you can see how wonderful the foliage is. Many antiques may get some disease when young, but will throw most stuff off when mature. She has been with me for four years. And she smells very good.

You will be very, very glad...

A few pointers. Repeat after me: Chinas, Teas, Noisettes....Chinas, Teas, Noisettes....Chinas, Teas, Noisettes.... Hybrid Musks do pretty good here, too. Cs & HMs are not the best for cutting, but are great in the garden.

Many Old Garden Roses get HUGE here, so keep that in mind if size is a factor. And to top that off, some will sulk and quit blooming if pruned. I think the Duchesse will go to 6X6 when fully mature.

They're all so beautiful!!!...and I can almost smell their heavenly scents. :)

I've planted only three here in Flarda.
I've always been fearful to try roses here, even tho I had many up north.

These are all grafted on fortuneana stock.

Lovely, lellie.

Those KOs are growing on me. They certainly put on a show of color. There are quite a few in the landscape of the ramp at one of the Plant City exits on I4. They are filling in well and always colorful.

I love the look of Gemini, but am staying away from HTs as best I can. I am addicted to the rose scent and this one is not scented, I believe.

Fourth of July is a great looking rose. I got mine at HD and it is grafted to Fortuniana rootstock, but not doing well. I think that it needs much more sun then I can provide right now. As the sun travels further south, it will be getting more and then we shall see. If not, I will be moving it this winter. Love to see what the Rose Buds are growing. Lol...

It's been thru a rough time...first, it was in the original pot for almost a year because I couldn't figure out where to plant it...then, after I did plant it, it hated that spot...thought I lost it.
Now it resides next to the fence, in full sun alongside the Fourth of July.
As long as I water both of them well once a day, they do great.
But...let me forget a day and they stress...fussy, fussy!
LOL
