Mail Order Crape Myrtle's

Wanted to ask if anyone has experienced what I am with mail order Crape Myrtle's. It doesn't help matters in the least that the mail carrier lady let's them sit in her mail truck all day, then at about 4:30 pm she will drop them off at the stoop. Twice this has happened. They looked wilted and in poor shape. I soaked in water for a couple hours. In each shipment I got two. In the first, one is pulling thru the other lost ll leaves and seems to be just sitting there. I checked the roots and they seem ok and there is still green in the stem. It has been two weeks now. The shipment friday, both wilted and withered looking. One is pulling thru, the other is losing leaves and looking poorly. Do I just keep watering and just hope for the best? I have them in part sun.

If this helps,,,the first shipment were Dynamite and the second shipment are Queen's Lace.

I am so sorry about the lousy mail service. What a bummer. The soaking and watering is great but if it was me, I would move all plants to full shade until you see new leaves.

I haven't mail ordered crapes, but I did want to tell you that I have seen both of those varieties - Dynamite and Queen's Lace - within the past few days at Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot. (I have been to all three stores scouting out another plant.) They were very reasonably-priced at all of those stores, in case you need to replace the ones you ordered through the mail. Hopefully you won't have to do that.

Anybody know about Burgundy Cotton? How well they bloom? Fall color? I'm trying to figure out a good color combination for my backyard. I'm thinking of a row of light pink with a row of dark purple in front of that. So I'm thinking of the Burgundy Cotton in the back with Zuni or Catawba in the front. I know that Burgundy Cotton is said to have white flowers, but I've seen it in person and it's more of a very light pink, which I think would look nice with the purple. I did a combo of red and pink in the front (dynamite and Sioux) so I'm trying to do a different color combo in the back. Fall color is important to me. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Corrado's in clifton is indeed a great store! i buy from them often - but unfortunately no crapes:( but the good news today is that i finally have 2 monster size crape myrtle TREES sitting in my pickup truck. i did some digging online this morning and just for the heck of it started calling garden centers in northern delware. i immediately found one nursery that not only said they have a ton of crapes but that they just began a $1 SALE for only today thru sunday. you buy any shrub or tree and get a 2nd one of the same variety for only $1. i walked out of there with two 8ft. trees for only $150. you just can't go wrong with that! yeah sure i had to drive 2hours each way, but it was totally worth it:) hell, worst case scenario, even if both trees die on me next spring, i wouldn't even be upset (well maybe just a little...) if any of your are interested, the store's name is: 'Countryside Nursery & Garden Center' in Newark, Delaware. their phone number is: 302-832-1320 thanks to all of you out there for your wonderful advice! bobby~

We do not often have discussions about what has been developed by OSU. I wish we did. You might want to try the Master Gardeners at OSU. I grow many crape myrtles, and they grow well here, but we have much more water than you do in Arizona. Sammy
