I grew the Mirai series last year, just to trial it against some of my own personal favorites. Please realize that my comments are only my opinion, and you will probably get a wide range of opinions, both positive and negative. I thought that the Mirai corns were only OK, nothing special. They were on a par with the best varieties of SE corns which I've tried, but not as good as the best Sh2 varieties. Of the three, I thought the white was the best. There has been a fair amount of "buzz" about Mirai and some of the other so-called SHq corns (a marketing term, standing for "Super High Quality", not a breeder's term). I also tried a couple of other kinds of these synergistic hybrids last year, and my opinion of them was all about the same -- OK, but NOT the big breakthrough, the "next big thing" that is claimed. For my money, the best corn I've ever tried is Sun and Stars Hybrid, and SH2, from Burpee. Second best is the old standard, Illini Xtra Sweet, one of the first SH2 corns introdued, way back in the 1960's, and still one of the best. I think it's really a good idea, though, to try these things for yourself, not only because personal tastes vary, but also because variety performance varies from region to region. What does well in the cool upper Midwest or New England, for example, may NOT do so well in the hot and humid Southeast or in subtropical California. I've been trialing new varieties for a few years now, and I still haven't beaten my two favorites, Sun and Stars (SH2) and Ruby Queen (SE). This year, my corn trials are taking a giant step backwards -- I'm trialing quite a few heirloom, open pollenated types == Texas Shoepeg, Golden Bantam, Mexican Black, Painted Mountain Sweet, Luther Hill, and several others. I don't expect them to be anything like my beloved Sun and Stars, but I hope to expect them on a different level (more starchy, less sweet, more "corny," probably good for succotash dishes and fresh corn fritters, salsas, etc.

Mirai is not a genetically engineered corn per the website for this variety, http://miraicorn.com/mirai_story.html "In the development of Mirai there has been NO genetic modification or biotechnology traits applied. Mirai has been created through natural selection." As to the original question, I've never grown it. From what I've read it does good in Mississippi and is said to be an excellent sweet corn.
