I've been MIA lately, but guess what....

I've been preoccuppied lately and haven't posted in quite awhile. I had 70 tomatoes last year and a full garden. Plus DH decided we would buy a new house. Why do big projects always seem to come at harvest time? Well, we ended up not moving (the lord answered my prayers) and I'm looking forward to this years garden.

For those of you who recall my cooking skills, I thought I'd pose this question. Guess what I'm cookin'?

OK, I guess your absence is excused. :) Everything you've put your talented hands to is just terrific! I certainly hope the fireplace and the many snowflakes have been stored lovingly away so they may be hauled out in all the years to come. Loving efforts like your's (!) are the basis of "traditions". I do so hope the fact is not "lost" on people who, too often, look only to the "goal" immediately in front of them... I could have sent you cat and dog hair in quantities certain to cover a child's mask in no time flat. (Unlike Cynthia, ;) ). Babs., you would have really like Mum a lot. She was always "into" something... (consequently, so were my brother and I). Papier mache, stripping furniture, painting something, sewing, hooking rugs or braiding them... . Our Halloween costumes were wonderful... but we were required to be something SCAREY... no princesses allowed. I see you've used your time profitably and JUDICIOUSLY. I'm not in the least surprised! and am delighted with your photo essay.

I'm covering my ears. I can't hear you. Don't want to know anything about Pipevines!!! Arghhhh!!! There was a Pipevine Swallowtail explosion at the ranch back in late February. All those little darlings that were overwintering came out in full force. There have been so many caterpillars it is unreal. Every time I drive out there I now see chrysalids on the barbed wire strands, the fence posts, tree limbs, the windmill, the deer blinds - everywhere!!! And to think those will soon emerge and the cycle continues. Yep, have seen lots of butterfly porn out there too :o) I know they are using a native aristolochia erecta as a food source ...but everytime I find the plant it is being eaten to the ground by caterpillars. Am wondering if there is some other larval host plant they use...doesn't seem like there'd be enough to feed them all. Have been on a quest to grow aristolochia fimbriata and transplant it there. The caterpillars I raised love that stuff. ~ Cat

I have had the same hotmail account since the day I got on the internet, so a LONG time, and never once had a problem with spam, hacking, or anything else. There were the occasional growing glitches as they changed the system over the years but I have been very happy with it. I personally never use the email that is provided by my ISP. The only time we did was way back in the days of MSN dial up! and even then I had my hotmail. So I do not think there is anything better about ISP over free either. I much prefer all of my freebies. I think since I have been on comcast I may have checked that email address I got there once in 2 yrs. And lo and behold it was full of spam LOL and never used. Passwords are key!!I tell my family that all the time and still they use their dogs name as their password, my neice's daughter helped her friends set up facebook and twitter accounts and she used the same password for ALL of them. She just could not understand why I nearly had a stroke on that one. I just give up. What does it take to create a password? To protect your savings and your identity? I personally keep a note book that has all my sites and their associated user name and password. I write it in there every time I get a new one or change one. I keep that notebook in a very secure locked location. Now if at some point a burglar manages to break into my house, kill me and my husband, steal my computers and also manage to find and steal my password notebook well at that point he can have it. Because I am pretty sure he will be bleeding pretty badly himself, and I won't need it. LOL

Its too early for tomatoes still and the strawberries need a few more days before they start coming on.

This takes longer to 'cook' than salsa or jam.

Yep, Bejay you got it. So how's the sunshine state? I'm gonna visit home this June. It looks so different now that it no longer look like home, definitely makes me feel like a tourist and that is irksome.

I'll probably 'cook' until early Oct.

So I'll be nice and big during the harvest. Don't think I'm gonna do 70 tomatoes this year.

I figured that out pretty quickly.LOL

I am another that is cooking a bun in the oven, mine will be done cooking earlier, the end of July and just in time for big time canning and the garden into full swing. Only problem is that I will have a c-section and won't be able to do much lifting for 6 weeks, but my mom is coming up to stay at that time so guess who will help me with canning this year.

tietie, congratulations! I am such a wacko gardener that I guessed you were "cooking" compost. ;-)

Now, compost is a fine thing, but even I have to admit that a baby is even finer. Hope you are well and comfortable.
