St. Pete / S. Tampa - free 6.5 gal. nursery containers

Well, it's that time of the year, hurricane season, and I need to clean out the side of my house. These Classic 2800 seven gallon nursery containers are up for grabs, about 75 of them. They actually hold 6.5 gallons of potting mix....If anyone is interested send me an email; otherwise they'll be file 13 a week from tomorrow.

I also have a 75' 5/8" hose looking for a new home.

Hi Tom, I'd like the hose. Could I pick it up next weekend? I am off to Cedar Rapids on business in the morning. BTW I just started my peppers! I didn't forget!

Hi Tom,

So you're in St. Pete on the bay? I could definitely use some of those containers. I'm in north Tampa, though, so I'd have to sort of plan out the trip. By the way, I was just emailing with Elizabeth from Daytona, and she asked if I had met an awesome gardener named Tom from Tampa - I wonder if you're that Tom. Also, your neighbors have coconuts? I've really been wanting to try to grow a coconut palm, even though I don't know if it would survive. Do you think they might be willing to sell me a couple? Are they dwarfs or talls?

Tom, I will bring you aster plants - the mom plant sends out lots of shoots after she is done blooming. And then, when the young pups are done blooming, they too send out pups - so the population grows rather well :) I have QW vine, but unfortunately, this year, due to the nasty weather, it froze to the ground :( It is finally starting to coming back from the roots and has a long way to go. Anna is , I think, a bit more south of us, so her vine did much better through the winter.... Does anyone know the name of this plant? I forgot! And does anyone have it in other colors? I particularly have been looking for blue, not sure if I will ever find it :) From Backyard Summer 2008

Hi Islandgal I think for now the cold is worse than the dryness that you are experiencing in your garden, it reminds me when I lived in Arizona and everything was so dry. OMG..I have almost procrastinated to long. I have been seeing that sign up the road now for 3 years and just decided to do something about it. I'm a newbie at this sorta thing so please,..be gentle. I have 2 chiquita banana plants,1 smooth cheyanne pineapple. Bromeliad pup cuttings...Fireball, variegated galaposa(matchstick),1 tillansia hybrid that needs a good home.Some ice plant and maybe some orchid cuttings. I have but 1 final question about this whole thing. You mention food and drink. Enough for personal consumption? Enough to share or shall I break out the Chef Cordon Blue Army Battalion cookbook.

Yeah Marcia, what's that old Ben Franklin quote ? " An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure " ? Smart guy that 'ol Ben. I wasn't even new to Florida as such when those new trees died, - originally moved from New York City to the Upper Keys where I lived for 13 yrs before moving here. But living in the Keys is like living in The Wizard of Oz Land as far as gardening goes. Growing mango trees was so easy there, got complacent, but woke up quickly after moving here ! ( smile ) My 2nd set of mango trees all had Christmass tee lights strung thru them Nov 1st to March 1st. Even had some old sheets to build a small tent over each if it got really bad. Lost no more fruit trees to cold nights after that ! Don't want to sound like I'm complaining tho,..far from it. Was out early ( 7:05 AM ) this morning putting my big garbage bin at the curb and had to pause and take in the scene. Only 58 degrees, - brisk, but I loved it. Sun just peeping over the eastern horizon, casting a warm looking glow to the lawn. But wait, - something different,..NO WIND for a change ! Love being a retiree in SW Florida,...those concrete canyons of NYC are just a faint memory now ! TBTG ! C'mon Mother Nature, try throwing another curve ball at me, will be ready this time ! ( smile )

Tina - the hose is yours

Matt - I work in N.Tampa near USF. I can bring some with me if you can pick them up one afternoon at 3:00 P.M. My neighbor's coconut palm bit the bullet last winter, we had frost for the last two years after not having any for fifteen years prior, so I'd say your chances of success would be slim.

I'd take some of those containers off your hands. I can either swing by this weekend or if you want to come by for the 5 cent tour, I'll be home Sunday.
