i read where they specifically stated that but its still pretty ambiguos. i always thought DNA had some level of certainty even in this case where its 1 generation apart. in their conclusion they stated the estimated parent was Julie. im not sure why a Scientific technical paper would say that after admitting they did not test Sophie Fry unless they reasonably eliminated it through confirming Julie as the parent.

Hello Patty, my mangoes are doing pretty good and I have never sprayed them with any fungicide or insecticides. My backyard is extremely humid( I'm about 5-10 miles from the ocean, as the crow flies)and we get frequent thick fog that makes my backyard look like it just rained. Ong's nursery does sell a lot of these varieties and if you buy several plants from him at one time, he(or his mom) may give you a discount. If Quang is there, tell him I recommended you to see him and he may give you an additional discount. Mickey from Plantogram is also a great person to order plants from and he will sometimes send you pictures of the trees before you purchase them. If you calculate in the shipping and phyto cert, its is still cheaper to get the plants from Ong's nursery. I have seen only a few larger specimens of mango trees in my area and many of them are seedling mango trees. Leo Manuel of CRFG had many grafted varieties of Mangoes in his backyard but he only had a few larger trees and they were still much smaller than an avocado tree. Mango trees in SoCal get killed back every several years when we get a hard frost. You will be lucky to get a mango tree to grow very large here. If you check out Exotica, they have some mangoes planted in the ground that are pretty old but I wouldn't say they are large. I'm actually trying to get my mango trees to grow very large by planting seeds directly into the ground so that their taproot will go deep. I will then graft a named cultivar onto the seedling in hopes of producing a grafted mango that will actually grow large here. I even grafted an additional rootstock onto my Maha Chanook Mango tree in the hopes that having two rootstocks will make the tree more vigorous. This is a very accurate lost of Thai mango's, thanks for that. I have seen all of them on the markets and eaten most. Now there are many new mangovariety's grown in Thailand, they were developed in Taiwan. I ate one of those (jakrapat=Yu wen) and it was great. A huge red sweet fibreless mango. Mango's like Raed or Thong dum are old variety's but still liked by the locals. They are much cheaper then namdocmai though. The sweetest one is namdocmai si keo, looks more green then the golden namdocmai. I still wonder why the golden is sold the most in Thailand but maybe because they all like gold. All those new taiwanese mango's are being tested now in Thailand and some big farms allready planted them.If they are all as good as the yu-wen then i guess they will be exported soon as being huge perfect mango's in red color. So far only mahachanok is a pink/red blushed mango in thailand but that will change soon. Mahachanok doesn't even come close to the taiwanese variety's tastewise and is smaller.

Sorry no pics, but my elderly neighbor has about a 15' Mango tree with the smallest most narrow pencil thin leaves I've ever seen on a Mango tree. It's actually the only Mango tree I've ever seen where the leaves actually looked significantly different or unique. I think most of his Mango trees are just from seeds he's randomly planted in the ground so it could be anything. It's probably at least 10 years old, but I've never seen fruit on it. I've asked him what variety it might be and he has the faintest idea.
