is it ok to put soil directly on grass when filling raised beds?
Comments (13)sophigirl Yep, you can put down the cardboard, newspaper, soil, and other goodies in your beds and the plants will grow. In your shoes, since it's brand-new beds, I think I'd want them down as soon as possible. Though you can plant everything whenever you get the beds laid out, I think you'd feel more secure if you can get them laid out now and then plant a week or two later. It gives things time to settle, particularly if you're unable to shave off the sod some way. One guy on the internet showed how he removed the sod, turned it upside down so the roots were up, then put down the cardboard, newspaper, and soil for his raised beds. It was a matter of mixing "browns and greens" for fast decomposition of the sod and encouragement of earthworms, who apparently love the glue in corrugated cardboard....See MoreHot Pepper Canning.... Help!
Comments (3)If the 2 jars sealed well then no problem but try not to forget that step in the future. ;) All the things you added were dry spices EXCEPT the garlic, right? There is probably enough vinegar in the 2/3 vinegar brine to cope with the garlic but don't push your luck. Dry spices and seasonings don't change the pH but fresh ones do so stick with dried if you insist on going beyond the recipe instructions. As a general rule: Additives = increased risk. So until you gain experience and basic knowledge of canning rules, stick with the recipe. :) Also keep in mind that spices intensify during shelf storage. Some 10 fold. So use them sparingly. What may taste good for fresh eating can easily overwhelm and ruin the whole jar while stored. Dave...See MoreAcid for hot pepper sauce - is lemon OK?

Comments (7)My vet recommended CET dental chews - they are made out of "beefhide" (is that the same thing as rawhide?). They have the added bonus of cleaning the teeth between brushings. The advice was to supervise the doe with his first few chews, just to make sure that he doesn't try to swallow too big of a piece. They do soften quite nicely and I haven't noticed any splintering. However I NEVER let him have one unsupervised. Ever, because you just never know. When the piece gets small enough that he could potentially choke on it I take it away and throw it out. So far no problems....See Morekeepitlow
