Best way to root coffee plants?

sillybugs

well im sure layering would be best but someone gave me a branch of (what they called) native florida coffee.

I have it broken down into softwood and hard wood, should i bother trying to root the hard wood cuttings?

and what would be a good media to start the cuttings in?

loamy sand, potting soil, or?

thanks :)
