Best way to root forsythia for 50 ft hedge? This year?

Zone 6, NE PA. We have two 30 year old forsythia bushes that were cut back and growing like crazy. Can I root cuttings for a 50 ft hedge? I googled and the advice varies from just sticking cutting in the ground, to using new wood and rooting powder and keeping inside for first year. Can you help me figure out what is best in this situation?

I will be clearing the area for the hedge, keeping it weed free will be a project so I am willing to put some effort into rooting to increase chances of success. Hoping to plant by fall. Space for rooting is a consideration, but may be able to get a little help from a friend...

Suggestions welcome on how close to plant or any other details.

Thank you for reading. April
