Smoked Peppers

The plan is to smoke my own peppers - both jalepenos for chipotle and a milder, but still spicy, pepper as well. Hubby has one of those testosterone inspired smokers out of a sportsmans catalog so he smokes meat and fish all summer and is rather good at it.

Still, I have some questions regarding technique. Should I de-stem the peppers? How about cutting slices into them so that the smoke can easily penetrate into the meat? It occurs to me that not much can get through a pepper skin, but I may be over estimating it.

Does anybody have any words of advise regarding time and temperature? A prefered wood for flavor? Marinade? Long term storage suggestions? I am eager to read anything and everything that you might have to say, and a search didn't net me much, so please opine freely.
