It would be very difficult for any plant to adjust from indoor conditions to the hot direct sun. And vice versa, by the way. Why not try finding a shadier location for them to reside during the summer months? The fussy palm, certainly, would prefer the shade anyway. Be sure you don't let that plant dry out...they need to be kept more on the moist side.

HaHaHa Yea i know what you mean... im use to it tho trust me. I transplanted 3 20' of trunk trachycarpus fortunei and they were at least 2,000 also. i have a lot of friends and were young... played football n stuff so its hard dont get me wrong but many stong hands make light work... ;) and if anything ill rent a heavyduty bobcat and do the job. but there not close to as heavy as the trunks on my 60' pines and birch trees ive been cutting down for the last week. and i have to some how move at least 20-25' pine logs at least 2 1/2' - 3' thick to build my palapa...they probally weigh around 3-4,000 lbs. thanks for the advise tho im ready and determined tho lol. it will be a lot of work but im ready and its much needed work.thanks again- Justin

That must have been fun to walk around a place so close to home and check out all the cool palms.As far as what you said about the protection methods,I think people would be surprised at the difference putting a clear frame of any type over palms or cactus makes.There are quite a few cactus that grow in places that go below freezing,and even below zero in many cases,and that includes several of the Trachycarpus palms,what a difference keeping cold rain, dew and frost off of fronds and petioles in winter as the water makes its way into the crowns and refreezes over and over again.Nice pictures!I made my "final" two purchases to fill in my last couple of spots I had open for this year,a sabal birminghamn and a echinocereus caespitosus for the cactus garden.Good luck with yours!Post some pics when you get everything planted

adp_abq / cactus dude - Thanks much for the input; yep, I believe indeed the yucca I really like is the common-yet-beautiful Yucca faxoniana; I may just have to start little by going to Santa Fe and buying one and raising it. I just cannot stomach paying $400 for a tree. [And how heartbreaking indeed that I could not have been around when they were chopping the mature one down on the west side near Coors - I would gladly taken it off of their hands!] - I think that is what I need here now, someone wanting to remove one and find a new home for it! quercus_abq - Very, very interesting - thank you so very much for the history!
