Where are you newgen, Eureka? Temps like those in Cali would only exist there I think. I wouldn't think a majesty had any chance in Eureka and probably most of northern Cali, but I could be wrong. If you're on the SF peninsula, you might have a chance, but that it is one heck of a specialized microclimate I believe you're probably living in. I used to live in Walnut Creek, granted before I got into palms, but I don't know that majesties would do well in the East Bay either. I don't recall seeing any. On the PalmTalk forum, there are several guys from NoCal that are on that forum and could probably help you more. There is also a board for Palms in the Northwest which may be linked here or maybe the hardy palm and subtropical board.

I have 3 small potted sago palms and the tips of needles get yellow but there is new growth on all of them and they are planted in miracle grow same with all 21 of my palms and the rest do great then my majesty palm has brown tips but still grows and I got a 10 inch pot of pygmy date palms from Home Depot and seperated them I ended up getting 16 of them for 4.50$ the largest trunk is about 4-6 inches across and same in height then with fronds about 2.5-3 ft and I was wondering when it will flower about how big te they when they flower and finally my areca palm seedlings are in full dawn to dusk southern exposure i know they like shade but it's the only spot I have how should I train them for the sun I do bring the palms inside every winter

Hey Matt, thanks for replying, My greenhouse would be ONLY able to be heated to about 39F in winter. My local Lowes has them on sale for $10.00 now. The heat will come on at 39F and shut off at 50F. IF they are STILL on sale in about April or March I MAY try one at $10.00 each.

Hi Justin Stevens! I'm afraid I have some bad news about the palm. The white spots are pests, spider mites I think, and they are very difficult to deal with. Also, majesty palms are notoriously difficult to grow indoors and are hard to keep alive. The yucca doesn't seem to be in good shape either, and needs a lot of light to truly thrive. They are grown outdoors in full sun here in California. I'm not sure if you paid for the plants or not, but if they were free I would recommend tossing them and starting over. It would probably take more time and money to rehabilitate these two then it would take to get two, healthy, new plants. Plants that look similar but are much easier to care for are parlor palms, in place of the majesty palm, and a dracaena in place of the yucca. If you would like to rehabilitate these plants, I would recommend purchasing some neem oil. Dilute it in water in whatever ratio is recommended on the bottle, and spray it all over the leaves and stems of your plants, then wipe down the leaves and stems with a paper towel or cloth. Do this once every week until the pests are gone. Trim off the dead trunk on the yucca, and trim away all the dead leaves on the palm. When you re-pot them, check if they are root-bound. If they are, move them into pots one size up from their current pot. If they are not root-bound, you can re-use the pots, but make sure to disinfect them with some rubbing alcohol. I like to use MiraceGro African violet soil or MiracleGro Housplant soil mixed with 30 to 50% perlite. The majesty palm likes lots of humidity, so you can place it on a humidity tray or purchase a humidifier. Water them when the top inch of soil is dry. I hope this helps and good luck! damask_rose : )
