salvias from Plants Delight Nursery

after getting 'Anthony Parker' from nicky, and being absolutely amazed at how well it bloomed and tame it stayed all summer, i spent a lot of dough on some salvias from pdn this winter.

Salvia chamaedryoides

Salvia greggii 'Big Pink'

Salvia greggii 'Pink Preference'

Salvia farinacea 'Augusta Duelberg'

finally got them in the ground in february & they look great right now. but my favorite is the duelberg:

what i like maybe best about these perennial salvias is not that they bloom all spring, summer and fall, and not that they require practically no water even in sun... but that they root so easily from cuttings. that way, i can share!

Coleus and salvias...my two almost favorite garden plants. I love all the ones you have named, Ill! Congrats on having fun with salvia. With over 700 varieties, they are really addictive!

Nice selections, Ill! I'm with Marcia in that salvias and coleus are at the top of my list. In my butterfly garden I have the "Pink Preference" and also salvia greggii "Lipstick" and my favorite salvia guaranitica "Back and Blue". On my want list is "Hot Lips".

Yes, there is a lot of sad news in that newsletter. Including the murder of nurseryman Todd Bachman at the Olympics. Plant Delights is having an open house this weekend and next weekend. I have lots of photos posted in my blog in a slideshow of the one that I went to in July. It was my first trip there and made my first purchases from PDN. PLEASE don't respond to such old posts. What happened back then could be totally different from today. Start your own post if you have a problem with a certain company, because I still believe that we have this forum to complain if we are treated badly. I did back then. I would not presume to say the same thing today, 5 years later unless I had recent personal experience with them. Not fair to a vendor who can have some off times. Problems happen and it is how the mitigate those problems that should count. -Babka

If you need information on optimizing the growth of Chinese Salvias, contact your friends in the local chapter of NARGS (North American Rock Garden Society). They would know if anyone would how to grow tricky Chinese plants. There is a listserv called Alpine-L, open world over to anyone interested in growing alpines. Growing tips for difficult plants is one of their main topics.

How moist is the soil? The roots need air to breath. Stagnant water or overfertilization will kill off the roots and produce leaf damage as well. Regla makes a good container plant for about 3 - 4 years. Start a new plant each year to keep it going. I collected this sage by an open roadside in Coahuila on a trip with Carl and John of Yucca-Do, and it does well in full sun as long as it has the right kind of soil. The two sage trees in Jame were about 30 feet tall and had 4 inch trunks of pretty solid wood, since they kept two boulders from rolling down the hillside. You might check your microclimate for a warm, sunny spot with protection from west to north winds.

Betsy, I got a nice sized Hot Lips at Biosphere last month, and I love it! It has solid red flowers, solid white ones, and the white ones with the red "lips." It's beautiful!

Did I hear someone say salvia? Yes, that, coleus and cuphea are my faves!
Ill~ love the white! We need to do a salvia swap!!!

Salvias and coleus?!?!! Those are my 2 favorites!!!!!
I will try and post a link to my albums for both a bit later.
And I agree we need to do some swapping!!! I already have a few things rooted.
