Friday Late Bloomers

I was going to get my pictures posted early, but guess what? The electricity went off for a couple of hours. So here are the late bloomers that were in flower here today.

AMBER FINALE had 12 blooms today. This is part of the large clump.

AUGUST CHERRY is one of my new lates I got in a trade last year. It's a 2005 Don Marvin intro.

CATHERINE NEAL has never bloomed late before this year. I've had her for 6 or 7 years.

CORAL MAJORITY is so hard to photograph. It's such a blend of colors - red, orange and pink.

BELATED GREETINGS

Sammie snoozing on the rain barrell. Sammie is sort of a late bloomer too. She was the most frightened of the ferral kittens. For a long time she wouldn't even make eye contact with us. Now she will take treats from our hands, some sometimes will tolerated being petted - especially when canned food is involved.

Sammie looks so cute taking her nap in the sun. Your late bloomers are all so very pretty today. The clump shot of AMBER FINALE is my favorite because of all the blooms. But I really love AUGUST CHERRY and BELATED GREETINGS also.

Thank you, Val, flower and cracking. Nancy- It is funny but I prefer your paler version of SO MANY STARS to mine with its yellow tinge. I think it is because I am used to seeing it paler than it is this year. Avedon- Why an extra thank you to you. That is so nice to say :-) mantis- I buy my snapdragons by the flat at the local nursey. I think these are Rocket Mix. I don't want them too tall but the really short six inch types don't work either. I really like snap dragons.

Thanks everyone. Nancy, usually Lotus Position is a mess unless I spray for thrips. Well, I never did spray this year but it is looking really wonderful this year. Maybe all the rain we have had just drowned those thrips ha-ha.

If late bloomer in NY, will it be a late bloomer in GA?

Ok, Judy here is a good example of how it works in my garden for late and extra late. I will use Olallie Gardens intros late bloomers as my example. Go down their late catagory and pick ones listed as mid September in their zone. So VT is I think a zone 4. Planted in my garden that mid Sept starting daylily starts mid August. But mid August is late here as regular season stuff is blooming on the 4th of July. So as you bring it south, it starts blooming earlier than the date they list.

Rita and Marg - I think Sammie WAS having some sweet dreams there.

Rita - I forgot to say that Amber Finale is getting rebloom scapes already. I think August Cherry is going to have great plant habits when it matures. The fans and scapes are looking really good for one just planted in September. I thought I had lost Belated Greetings. It's in a pot and hasn't bloomed for two years. (Its label had faded, too.) I'm taking extra special care of it, now that it's been located.

oooh! I love august cherry. You did a great job on photographing coral Majority! It is probably my favorite. And Sammie is precious!

I don't think my Amber Finale has ever had rebloom scapes. But then mine is not as mature as yours as I haven't had it that long. It will be interesting to see how I do this year on rebloom in general.

Coral Majority is a nice color in your photo. That rain barrell must be a popular hang out area!! Glad Sammie has come around a little.

I guess my fave wiuld be Catherine Neal. My oter fav is Sammie, He's a pretty kitty! Ellie

Your pictures are always wonderful. Sammie looks so peaceful napping on the rain barrel.
August Cherry is my favorite of the daylilies--lovely shade of red.

Well, my favorite is Sammie.She is looking very content on the barrel. LOVE that CATHERINE NEEL. Its gorgeous.
