BB's? I don't think so. A noose would be better, but try to find the critter first thing in the morning when it's still cool out and the critter is it's most sluggish.

A nighttime hunt with a good light, provided it doesn't upset neighbors, might work also.

WOW! As cool as iguanas look, I had no idea they would tear up a garden like yours. I figured he would have enough other things to eat.

The answer to your BB question is 'it depends'. All BB / pellet guns are not made equal. Some are as powerful as a pea shooter and some as powerful as a small .22 bullet. If you have or get a substantial rifle, it should work with ease. Just make sure nothing is behind the monster off in the distance that can be hurt or damaged.

I agree, the morning time when they are still cold would be best.

This monster is over 3 feet long. They're very selective eaters...so far he seems to like bananas, all things with white flowers and plummie leaves.

I didn't think I could kill him with a BB, maybe just blind him (only kidding) or make him stay away from the crazy lady with the BB gun's yard.

Seriously, anyone know anything I can spray or sprinkle around that will discourage them?

Get a large marine type cooler with ice. Like it was said before , go looking for them
at night / cooler weather when they would be sluggish. This may be the wrong time of the year.

Put them in the cooler with more ice on top . Say your " I am sorry Gods creature" prayer and then use it for fertilizer.

I heard of people putting them in a chest style freezer.... but I don`t want one poopin on my frozen pizza.

Or you can shoot it with a pellet gun . How about a large fishing net ?

D'Ann, you have me laughing :) I know some people love all creatures but not me...iguanas are in the same category as rats, possums and squirrels. I want them out of my garden, lol! And he's fearless, he waits til the I get a foot from striking and then flies off the tree and into the lake and is clear to the other side before I can even get close to giving him a good whack with the shovel. I think he sleeps across the lake under my neighbors dock cause he only seems to come over to my side when he's hungry.

I'm definitely going to have to figure out a way to catch him and freeze him. Is a pellet gun like a bb gun?

I'm tired or I'd go on my iguana rant. Here's the short version.
I can't understand why no one did anything when they first popped up. Now "they" have pretty much thrown up their hands saying we will never get rid of them but we can try to control them. Yeah? How?
My answer? I'd shoot every last one of them.
Or tell your county extension agent iguanas are eating your citrus and threatening the Fla citrus industry. Maybe then the State will pay workers to remove all iguana in a 1900 ft radius. Hey, they did it for canker.

Well, 'I read in a magazine' that a BB gun will work but you have to shoot them about 4-5 times. Like I said, 'I read this in a magazine'

I gotta think my pellet gun would kill it with one accurate shot, it shoots 1000 feet per second. Make sure its all clear in your shot path behind it! I killed 3 young armadillos yesterday, happy to see them go! I hate to have to kill any animal, but if I have recurring damage... Squirrels are on my list too unfortunately. My gun is a Gamo shadow 1000, which they used to carry at Walmart. One pump per shot. Wonderful, accurate gun. I cleared our rat problem pretty good.

Unless you're a pretty good with a pistol, get a shotgun instead. Shoot up at the beast from below if you can to avoid hitting your neighbors. WalMart sells a nice line of 12 gauge pumps, probably still on sale for Memorial Day.

when i was a kid, i'd use a bolt and nut combo. i'd say 3 oz. i could send it through a sheet of tin from 20 paces and would shoot sticks out of my brother's mouth to demonstrate my accuracy.

I don't know where you live, but I'm in Sarasota and my brother may know how to catch it (he's going to be a wildlife conservation officer)
