Hi Robin, If it looks like yours and if yours isnt a weeper, I guess mine isnt either. The branches from shoulder high will/do droop to the ground. While it definitely doesnt droop like a weeping willow, it is between that and some upright growth habit tree. I have never seen a mulberry droop more, but that dont mean anything, I am positive there are a gazillion things I havent seen so far. If you were able to root any of the branches, perhaps you can trade it off for something great. You heard about the guy trading a paper clip ultimately for a house havent ya? Sleepovers! We must have had a thousand of them. And I chaperoned scout, youth group and Sunday school sleepovers. My advice is different depending on whether or not the problem really is that the girl has trouble following rules. Kids who have trouble following rules have trouble in more ways than just asking to go home from a sleepover. If this girl has trouble following rules then I'd encourage my daughter to expand her circle of friends. Sooner or later your daughter will get tired of that behavior and she will want to go places with friends who fit in more easily. If this is just a phase then the parents will be seeing these issues in other areas and are probably working on it themselves. However, in my home this was never the case when a child wanted to leave a sleepover. Homebodies are homebodies. If that's the issue then this is a GREAT time to help your daughter understand that this is not about her, it's about her friend. There is a balance kids need to walk between compassion and self protection. What does that look like for your daughter? Does she want to always invite other girls too so some girls will stay all night or does she want to invite this friend only knowing the friend will go home? What do you and your daughter think is fair re disrupting the family at night? I finally had to tell my daughter that her friend needed to decide by midnight, because the commotion at 2:00am was getting to be too much. Keep in mind that we never know what these kids are going through. My daughter's friend who constantly went home or canceled plans eventually got medications for her anxiety. My daughter went through a growth process learning to move forward with her own social life while still making time for her friend. Lights out and quiet time for teens for home sleepovers. Different parents have different rules and opinions. To me, tweens are a bit old for that. This is a time to move them toward the teenage years. They resent being treated like first graders. When my kids were tweens the rules were don't wake up dad and sibling and don't be grouchy the next day. You can have all sorts of consequences if they wake others up. They can cook you breakfast in bed. They can clean your bathroom or wash your car. They can learn your college fight song and sing it for your Facebook page. They can serenade you with let it go from frozen. But if you keep your lights out and quiet time that way is not wrong, it is just a different way than mine. Your house your rules. Also I would caution you to be very careful about telling your daughter her friend has trouble following rules. If you can ask her questions and help her figure it out for herself that would be best. And you never know what's really going on. In middle school I read Salem's Lot and I was scared of the dark, particularly away from home. I would have died before I told anybody. You might also get creative about finding ways the girls can be a little noisy and not wake everybody up. It doesn't get better as they get older. They come in late from jobs, dates, band trips and swim meets. We let ours camp out in the yard, sleep in the farthest room in the house and used noisy fans in our rooms for white noise. My oldest is 25 and we still have the occasional visitor crashing on the couch. Enjoy these beautiful days with your daughter and good luck whatever you decide.

Here are a couple of observations for what they are worth: The "problem" behavior you are describing all seems to come down to an attempt (however ineffective or primitive) by your daughter to control the situation. Children don't have a great deal of control - over themselves or their environment. It's something that they learn. It seems to me that your daughter's enthusiasm for these play dates suggests that she wants to socialize and is ready to begin learning the skills she will need to do so. Her "break down" into attempts to control after a while suggests that she may have reached the limit of her still growing ability. Remember that she is playing with other children whose own social skills are under construction. Imagine yourself in a similar position...you invite friends over and they expect to be able to "share" whatever you have. Even your newest clothes and your most expensive perfume are up for grabs. You might react in a fashion similar to your daughter's. In the case of adults, guests normally have internalized boundaries so that the hostess does not need to control their behavior. That isn't necessarily the case for children. Your daughter may be feeling very pushed - much more than is apparent to you. It might help for you to talk with her before such dates and let her know that she'll be expected to share with her friends but allow her to choose a few things that she does NOT wish to share. Those things can be put away safely so that she knows she still has "control" over them. Assure her that sharing does not mean losing what she wishes to keep. You mentioned that you think by age 6 she should be able to play nicely with another child. Why do you think that? Don't you think that is a little arbitrary? Children are very different and what one can do with ease at a given age another may have trouble with for a long time. It seems to me that your daughter IS playing nicely with other children...just not for as long as you'd like. I agree with the others who have suggested shortening the play dates. And finally, because children's socializing has much more to do with learning and practicing new skills than adult interactions, I think you have to expect a bit more "childish" behavior from them. Their squabbles can be very hard to listen to but they are opportunities for them to learn how to resolve conflict and to determine how they can fit into their group. If an adult is constantly intervening to stop every argument and to enforce one view of fairness, the children miss out on a lot of what such play dates have to offer. Of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't supervise to avoid actual physical conflict or extreme meanness but I recall that you said the other children didn't seem to notice the problem that is upsetting you. Sometimes it is difficult for a parent to realize that their child is NOT yet able to behave as an adult would.

If the house gets too small we'll just have to cozy up.

I talked to Kat. She thought anyone going to her house first might get there by noon, then come here at about 2.

I'll be here all day so you all can come by anytime.
I just might put you to work though!

So is anyone counting? How many are we up to now?

Do any of you guys want a compost bin? I wasn't sure if I would be able to go to the playdate since we are going to VA that week. It turns out we aren't leaving until Tues. I don't have any plants but I have a black compost bin taking up space.

Marion I LOVE roast beef, med rare please. My drunken Fruit is melons peaches and berries all swimming in splashes of Captain Morgan Rum! Aye Carumba! We will all have to do the Capt. M stance before we can drive home...wait I ain't driving, Kristi will just have to scrape me off the pavement!

Cliff, can I trade you a yellow tab for your purplish-pinkisn one? Mine had just germinated before I left for Alexandria, then Tally, and now Marco...hopefully they will have survived! If not, I have a bunch of super fresh seeds I got from Coke Nut.

Wanna Run Faster I can give you as many Surinam as you would like. They are propogating like crazy. And thanks for the bananas...I can taste them already :-) I havent seen any iguanas around where I am.

Hi Helen,

Do you have enough cutting of ( I think ) a double petticoat white brug ? HAWAIIAN DOUBLE ??

At Ricky`s in May , I got two cutting from you . One was white / the other was a frosty pink

The pink is thriving...the white croaked. Go figure ! LOL

Thanks Helen, my cutting marks have washed off, so I don't know which one is which. And I really want to plant a good variety by the post. Has the AB fruited for you yet?
The ice cream banana is exceeding my expectations, it already has 2 new pups on it. The grand nain is little slower, hopefully it will take off.
I have bunch of star apple (caimito) seedlings for anybody interested. Couple of black sapote seedlings as well.

Do you use the galanga Veronika?
I've seen it in recipes before, but used regular ginger instead.
How is it different?

I've not been posting any trades, but I expect everybody to take something home with you from my yard.

I have not use it yet. But I am gathering all the edibles in my garden to start doing some serious thai cooking (which I really love). This galangal was given to me by a thai family, that we frequent into their restaurat a lot. They use it side by side with regular ginger, but galangal supposed to give it a little notch of other flavor (more floral). They also use it in Tom Gha kai, which is my favorite soup. I can bring you some rhizome if you are interested. I also have sprouting of 7 different varieties of thai basil. LOL. I am really into this edible landscaping!!!

nytrinigemini, I would love one of your anise hyssop - either plant or seeds. Would you be interested in a clerodendrum speciossisimum - a great hummingbird plant or blue ageratum, loved by bees and butterflies.

I used to have the globa from Lady, but I am not very good with dormant things, and I misplaced it somewhere...
Any ginger that you want to bring me is fine (I have butterfly ginger, kahili ginger, Daniel weeks, alpinia formosana (pine striped), costus osae, costus specious, alpinia japonica, costus comosus, costus stenophyllus, Costus stepladder (Costus malortieanus)alpinia purpurata, alpinia nutans narrow leaf, Costus cuspidatus, costus woodsonii, hedychium kewense,costus barbatus than the edible gingers: regular ginger, turmeric, galangal. These are my gingers. Anything that I don't have would be great.

Nytrinigemini if you have an extra anise hysop, I would like that a lot. I love anise flavored tea.

Got it ...I will add two Anise to my List of things to bring.....Veronika you have to tell me how to make tea out of it...I heard its good for many things....Ginny I would love a piece of the clerodendrum (looks really cool) or the blue ageratum....my goal is to have as many plants the hummingbirds and butterflies like so that I can increase my chances of seeing them :-) Variety should tempt them right?
