OK.This is my experience with Carries.I was in Laras Farm buying mangos(the fruit)a couple of years ago and i tall him about this funny after taste that people describe here and in others forums,and he told me tha Carrie has to be picked when he can almost fall in ur hand when u touch it.Then he open one right there for me to taste and was heaven in earth.So i brought some Carries that by the way had more green and yellow that the one yhat i taste there that was almost complete yellow.Ok i wait for then to ripe in my home and guess what-every one has that weird after taste like herb or medicine....so now i have my first year with carries on my tree and i really worried.Is the Carrie the kind of Mango that need to be picked in the right time to taste good?Was the carrie that i taste on Laras really a Carrie?I will love to hear the experience of people that love the Carrie mango if his taste can have that medicine after taste depending when u pick then.Thank You. Its potted. Just a tall variety that refuses to branch horizontal. I tried last year tip pruning..nada. It sent out more vertical shoots. Right now its in a great spot for warm,but the clay soil needs to be amended big time-for a mango- or a raised bed to add winter soil warmth and drainage...this is where that Florida and soucal/Arizona sandy soil really has a huge advantage. It seems to have set heavily-I'm used to that one in a hundred fruit set that Avocado's have here,but of course the grow into huge tree's with more than enough fruit. If I can get two good growth flushs..I should get fruit. Also M.D.,this is as early as they come for the bay area..it was forming flower buds in Jan. If it does what my Manila did..ripe fruit by the end of June-Sept. Let's just see...

Looks like your Maha is way ahead of your manila as far as maturity of fruit. Would love to see a pic of. the Manila tree. Funny you talk about heat and it's effect on setting fruit cuz I think I've discovered that it DOES affect the tree holding fruit. I waited too long this year to cover up both my Coconut Cream and Edward mango with shade cloth and they dropped all mangoes except 3. But of course can't be sure, but that's what it seems like....at least out here in Palm Springs.... Where in SoCal are you? Myamberdawg

Dear Tammy, Congrats on your impending arrival! It sounds like you are going to have your hands full! I have a few questions for you, but first I have to say thank you for the picture of the Lancetilla. I really appreciate it. I asked becaus I wanted to see if you had been able to keep it more compact and it seems like you have been succesfull. I must say that you are braver then me, I know I will have a tough time with cutting my mango back but honestly the Cogshall has a pretty good branch system all ready. I am going on memory but I think there are about five or six main stems. I am going to order the Lancetilla in the spring, hopefully around May. It will deped on if the temps are good enough for shipping here. Even though I live in New York I live right by Lake Erie which makes us a zone 6 microclimate. We have not even had freezing temps yet, and my Cogshall has been sending out flower inflorescences for at least two weeks now. I am hoping it will stay warm enough for them to set fruit, but I know I will have to bring it in if the temps go below 40 degrees. I have all ready decided that during the winter when I can't buy any more tropical fruit trees, I am goingto buy some metal hallides and put them in the basement next to the hot water heater. the basement stays pretty warm during the winter but it will need the hallides for the light. One thing I have learned is that the mango seems to go into bloom stage when the temps cool down. Did any of your Lancetillas ripen? I checked out the rest of your pics and the lettuce made me jealous. I have been planting letuce for some time now but the darn rabbits and wood chucks get it before I can! This spring I am going to get a few of the humane traps and hopefully I will have better luck. I did not pick anything fom my veggie garden. I had a bunch of herbs but no veggies. That is the big reason hy my energy went to my tropicals. I can't lie tropicals have always been my passion though. Your other mango trees look great! Have they had any fruit? I can appreciate not wanting to let them fruit so they can grow bigger and stonger but right now I live in an apartment and I am trying to keep some not all small fr now. I have an enor,ous Gardenia tree. it is at least 6 feet tall if not taller. Normally around this time my apartment looks like the garden of Eden. One last question, Where did you buy your mango trees from? They look so healthy! Thanks so much!
