Lates, FFO's, reblooms....I've got it all right now!!

And rain too...what more could you ask for? I know some of you folks have gotten more than your share of rain, so aren't excited about ours :) but, we've been without substantial rain for so long that it does excite me to get 2 entire days and nights of rain!! LOL Now on to the dl's that I took photos of in the drizzle this morning. :)

I know ya'll are tired of this one, but dang it, it's so darn photogenic....Belle Cook, once again on rebloom.

Beautiful! I especially liked Minstrels Fire and Night Breeze.
Checked out your 2007 blooms and they are so very pretty. The one that caught my eye there were Bicentennial Queen, Coquina Key and Fancy Buttons. Love that Cowboy Country. Great photos!

Beautiful and no rain spotting!Don't really like doubles,but Sweet Mercy is lovely! I am waiting for my first bloom of Night Breeze.

Estelle and Annette - Happy Spring back at ya! Annette - In the boating world, they talk of a condition called two-foot disease. "If my boat was only two feet longer, it would be perfect." Greenhousers probably get it too. Thanks, MeMo, the bags are heat sinks. There are two 5 gallon buckets of water inside each one. I was going to spray paint the buckets black, but Nell suggested wrapping them in garbage bags, since I was afraid the black paint wouldn't stick to the plastic buckets. I don't know if 100 gallons of water is enough to do the job, but I am going to stick a max/min thermometer out there tonight and start monitoring temps. I'm not planning on trying to use the soil inside the greenhouse to grow anything, as there is grass growing there and when I move the greenhouse in the summer, I don't want to step out of my basement door into a garden. :-) I think that there will be a hoop house in my future, depending on how I do with flower sales this year. OK, Patti. Let's get those seeds started! Terryanne, I see that you're in zone 5 too, and I hear you about heating expense. I'm just using my greenhouse, along with lights in my basement, as a plant starting area in the spring. My grandsons do love to go out there and play with their toy tractors in the dirt on a sunny day in the winter. I probably won't do any more than use an electric heater at night if I have to. Flowergirl - Autumn Jewels and and Desperado Love do have flowers that are similar colors. Both are descended from El Desperado. I grow all three because I like that color combo. AJ and DL have different shaped blooms, different sized blooms, different scape heights, and different bloom times. AJ has a 6-inch bloom on 40-inch scapes and is a late bloomer. DL has a 5-inch bloom on 26-inch scapes (it's 29 inches here) and blooms midseason. Chris - Mantis is right. Bullfrog Kisses was hybridized by Frank Smith. The Trimmers have a general listing with newer daylilies hybridized by others on it. I wanted to add more Frank Smith daylilies because I've had such good luck with American Doll and I Remember You. So I bought Bullfrog Kisses and Patsy Cline from Watermill, along with four of Trimmers intros because the prices were the best I could find on the Smiths. Debra

Very interesting on the notes of color differences. Some of the plants I moved down here never exhibited the same brightness as they did in WI. I had much better color consistency living in the north. Party Pinafore is the 1st that comes to mind. Loved that plant in WI & down here I have never seen it the same :( I wondered if it was even the same plant!

Define 'large infestation' ;-) Do you mean where the buds and the leaves are literally obscured by and dripping with aphids? If so, I've had infestations like that, and Ladybugs took care of the problem without flinching. Generally, folks don't overwinter a great number of plants, and so the problem is usually much more manageable. If Ladybugs are an option in your area, I really feel they are the best option. Just spray off the plants to mechanically remove the excess aphids, and then loose the Ladybugs. In my experience, one Ladybug will clear a medium-sized plant. When I overwintered more plants, I would simply move the Ladybugs from one plant to another. The Ladybug larva are even more adept and voracious at aphid control. When the Ladybugs have done their work, I move them to my Hoyas, which are even greater aphid magnets. Josh

Your blooms look extra pretty with those raindrops. Send some of that rain my way. We're getting desperate for moisture again. I also saw one in your album that I really liked - ENJOY. Is it always a late bloomer for you?

Debra...yes, Enjoy is always a late bloomer for me. It's one of my oldies but goodies. I've always loved it.

Jan, your DLs are beautiful.

I have Willie Lyles but he has not bloomed yet. He is one of my favorites. I have so many blends, bi-tones my husband asks why I have so many alike. I tell him they are not alike, but similar.

When I first started to raise DLs I did not care for the edges of different colors etc., but as each season goes by I find I like most colors and forms.

Your Minstrels Fire is really neat. Gudrid is also one that I would add to my garden. Sweet Mercy will soon be arriving from Subhana of the LA. Your FFOs look great for beginners.

I am glad to hear you got rain. We are still so dry. I water the ones in pots, but the garden is mulched so I hope that is helping. I gave it a good soaking yesterday, but it needs those two days like you got.

Jan, those are gorgeous especially with the raindrops. I for one am not tired of seeing Belle Cook. It and Minstrel's Fire have been on my list after seeing your pics. Thankfully we got several hours of that drenching rain you got yesterday which is THE most we've had all summer. I won't have to water anything for at least a couple of days =)

Jane...WL is in it's 1st bloom season for me, and I'm not sure if it will always be this late. However, it was planted last fall and not in the spring, so maybe it will. I like the late ones, cause it extends my bloom season. :)

MF is really shining on its rebloom, I like it much better now than I did earlier too.

Oh, your album has such gorgeous pictures of such gorgeous daylilies!

I bought Minstrel's Fire from Maaryotts afew weeks ago, can't wait for it to lok like yours.

My favorite of the pictures you posted is the stunning double Sweet Mercy. I see it is a late and I need more lates. What can you tell me about it?

Rita, I bought SM last season, and it bloomed and increased very well for me then. I love the color and it's a large one also. This season, it hasn't bloomed as much, but then, none of my dl's did as well as they should have due, I'm sure, to our severe drought conditions. We have finally begun to get some rain, so I'm hoping for more increase on SM, as well as my other dl's. It's scapes are tall enough for the flowers to sit above the foliage, but not too tall.
Since I haven't had it long, I can't give you much more info on it, sorry.
