4 unknown plants-can you help ID?

Every year there are some new plants that seem to appear from ...who-knows-where! If it's green I have a problem pulling it out, but sometimes, if it's a nice plant, I can move it. I'm trying to learn to be tough and 'weed'. These are three that I've been watching for a little while and one that will stay because of the berries, tho I don't know what it is......

this is about 2' tall, woody stem and coarse, rough leaves

This one is hiding under the firebush...looks familiar, but I can't place it:

It's not a blue pea vine - leaves are not quite right

And this is the 'tree or shrub'-about 6' tall now, has TINY white flowers and then gets tons of berries that the mockingbirds, cardinals and squirrels love:

I have one of #1 in my garden, too, Beth, and I'm THINKING it's a weed, because I don't remember planting anything that looks like it. So I will be happy to see what others say.

Number 2 looks like cleome to me. Did you have some before? They reseed pretty well, if they are happy in a spot.

Three & Four, I don't know, though 4 looks like something in the solanum family.

Hope someone can ID them all for you. I'm curious, too.

My first guess was #1 is a dwarf white ruellia but without flowers - I'm not so sure . The leaves look too shiny for the ruellia .

#3 looks a lot like perennial peanut .

Gardenguru, you're the best! I've done some Goog searching since you posted and was pleasantly surprised. Now that we know what it is, we'll take better care of it in hopes of seeing it bloom. So I've read, the fragrance from the flowers is absolutely divine. It is strange that we 've had the plant for 6 years and have never seen it bloom. Again, thank you so much, Gardenguru. B

Hi Gina, no apologies needed:-) people her will chime in on the IDs, it's not a pain at all, and the list is a little less active because it's JUNE, yay, we are all out in the dirt:-) if you don't get a response soon, try this: repost your photos with numbers and just a short request for ID's. That makes it easier for folks to answer. usually you'll get several responses, with each person just IDing a couple plants, rather than one person doing it all. The numbers help make it easier for several folks to each focus on what they know best.

Mary, if #1 is the same as mine, it gets real tall...about 4', and the leaves are toothed like holly leaves, only softer.

You know, #3 does look like perennial peanut, now that you mention it. I just checked mine, and it looks just like that. Beth, did you plant some of that at one time? I planted ONE 5 years ago, and some of it pops up every spring in slightly different locations, not far from where the original was planted.

#3 is probably a plain ole peanut...squirrels could have planted it.
#2 looks like a cleome to me also
#1 look like a weed I grow in my yard.

here's a close up of the leaf on #1 - it's coarse and very scratchy. pretty sure it's not ruellia, tho

Marcia, yep. Cleome - had some before and they died. It sure looks like that's it. I wonder if I should leave it there under the firebush or try to transplant it.

um... *hanging head* if the squirrels could have planted this 'peanut' ...that's probably a peanut. There are probably bushels of peanuts buried in my yard. I wonder if I'll be able to cash in on the crop???

I believe #1 is known as sea myrtle....?

(think it's a native - grows to a tall shrub)

& yeah, #3 looks like a peanut plant....

What a tool, this internet!! ...add a couple of good garden web friends....VOILA!

Pretty positive that #4 is: Twin-leaved Solanum or Two-leaved Solanum (Solanum diphyllum) is a native of Mexico and Central America.

and, the 'sea myrtle' for the first one is quite possibly correct, tho I wish the plant had blossoms on it right now.
