Only 2 weeks to the Inverness swap!

It's only 2 weeks until the swap at my house in Inverness on May 9! I just got back from the Melissa's house in Deland and now am looking forward to hosting my own.

There will be food and drink available so those of you who'd like to bring a dish please do.

I'll be there and will send an email soon! So sorry I had to miss the gathering this weekend.

I don't have much potted up yet but will post pictures of the yard and see what anyone wants. Mostly just interested in getting together and seeing everyone again.

I'll bring a yummy trifle for dessert.

Hi Kara! I seems like just yesterday when I last saw you, oh, wait a minute, it was! I am looking forward to seeing your garden and do have some plants put aside for the swap. I will be potting up some more today then we can start a list over on the exchanges page for what everyone is bringing! I will bring more of the Strawberry-blueberry salad!

Hey everyone, I will not be able to come to the swap this weekend. I just got back from the vet and my doggie is not doing so well...apparently her spine is degenerating....anyway I can't leave her alone all day. For anyone that I was trading with I'm very sorry but hopefully I will make it to the next swap. If anyone is in the Miami area or passing through and would like to pick up their plants I am available and we can make a bar-b-que out of it.

Dennis, not debating your idea, you are probally right. But i would have never posted that i get some crazy stuff in the mail. I always take mine in to the post office and let them do the postage so its not returned or recieved with postage due on it. I have gotten a number of trades that i had to go pick up with postage due on them. No big deal, just a waste of peoples time. And i always use the bubble envelopes to be safe. I have gotten seeds in a couple layers of papper towels. That seemed to work fine if its only a pack or 2. Of course its only an extra 20 cents to add non-machinable. But that don't mean it doesn't get overlooked sometimes. I have gotten stuff clearly marked non-machine or hand sort with seed dust cause they were processed with the machines anyway. To me its not worth taking a chance and incoviencing people, i use the same thing for 1-50 packs and if it starts to get too full i go to the small flat rate box. The boxes are nice anyway, i don't know why we don't trade pods instead of seeds. I have offered but no-one has ever taken me up on it. I was suprised, for a couple bucks extra you could try it then save your own seed from it

I personally don't think buying seeds for someone else is necessary. Nor is it expected. If you want to, I guess that is fine. I look through other's lists and some are getting 3 things and others are not getting any (from me). But as I see it, others that have things that I don't have, and will have some for them (the person I din't have any for) and perhaps none for someone else. If someone has a short want list they might not get much of anything since we can't fill their wants if they don't want anything. The host will have to fill in the gaps for them with extras seeds, and hope there is something in there that might please this person. If the person with a short list is not sure what they want, perhaps they can be vague and say I like blue flowers that like the shade. Or any flowers, I am new and I have no clue what will grow here yet. Then maybe someone can toss in something that fits that requirement. Personally, I am tossing my extra veggie seeds in the extras baggie. So, if someone that asks for any veggie or any tomato, Fran can fill in with my extra veggies in a fair way. I have no way of knowing if one person needs more seeds and another has an overflowing amount already. But really, I think this should be fun, and as Fran said it is not a one for one thing, just share what you have, and it will all be ok. (really) For example: I once participated in the give to a newbie thing as a newbie gardener. I really did not receive much of anything I could use (mostly flowers). But is was still fun. I kept what I could use and SASE'ed what I did not need. So the seeds found nice homes, even if not mine. All is good. Surprises are fun. Giving is good for the heart, and sole. I hope my interpretation of this Swap is not not way off. Yes I should try starting seeds inside in early spring. I found out out that natural beginnings seeds starter mix is a very good all natural mix from gardens alive. My rutabagas did very well in this mix. I had always thought of starting seeds inside as a northern thing to do. But I guess it is not. We are trying to beat heat and the northerners are trying to beat the frost. I have some soup peas in damp paper towels now to try to give them a early go for it this spring. Last spring direct sowed peas took 3 weeks to come up. So by the time they matured, it was too hot. I'm learning. My garden is on the side of the house were veggies get shade after 2 pm. First year I made the mistake of thinking full sun, I will plant on west of the house. UG. Learned that, that is too much sun for Texas! So this year all will hopefully be better due to: water ditches starting some things under pop bottle cloches Sprouting peas inside living mulch verses dead mulch cover crops over winter reorienting garden beds so sorghum and sunflowers can help shade off the rest of the garden. avoiding overly thirsty crops smaller tomato varieties trying beany things along ground But anyway, time to go to the dentist. I have to realize I am not the only one having garden woes. It is just that since I am a new gardener, all years have been extreme weather years. I have nothing to compare it to. Pomegranate?! *green ears perk up* oh wait, supposed to be a green-thumb, right? I'm working on that next! *thumbs up* You can grow Pomegranate trees in Memphis?? Does it actually produce edible fruits?? =0 Hi, I'm the newest 'newbie' here but definitely shooting for attending this event. I'm busy studying up on perfect soil mixtures as I'm going to try my hand at container gardening this year (a first for me) - trying to make sure I get it right and don't fry or drown my garden! I will have a few things to contribute to your plant-swap and definitely don't mind helping out with the church grounds donation / cleanup. Flan? FLAN??? Did somebody say FLAN??? And not just any flan, but SYLVIA'S flan???? Well, that does it. Now I have to talk Nicki into going with me. I can't have a plate full of Sylvia's Flan sitting around somewhere and me not be there have some!!!

Seriously, I'd love to come, Kara, and I am hoping Nicki is able to go as well. I will let you know for sure in a few days.

I am still drooling over my glass totem! It's the prettiest thing in my garden, honestly! I keep moving it from place to place, trying to decide on a perfect home for it...but it's a hard decision, because it looks fabulous EVERYWHERE!!!

Felix, I finally got my hands on the memory card and am in the process od editing the pics; We got really great shots of the group. Will be posting a link to a slideshow soon or will just do several posts so that the pictures will not take so long to load. We got a cute one of you smelling the roses in the middle of the buffet. You ARE bad, Felix. Bad, bad, bad. Bad to the core! I'll have you know that SEVERAL people at Melissa's said they had no idea what I looked like. And here I thought my mug had been around this board so long, no one could have missed it. (Those folks were shocked, let me tell you. I think they thought I was just kidding about being OOOOOLLD.)

Now you behave for the rest of the day!! And quit picking on me! I have something special for you, and if you aren't careful, I just might have to keep it myself!!

Flan? You guys are doing nothing for my diet...

I'm still not sure if I can make it - but dang, the flan is as much incentive as Kara's chocolate cake...

I just need to see how long my Dad and his lady friend are going to be here. I'm not sure if they're still here on the 9th or what.

I'll check back in when I find out - should be later tonight.

I wanted to bump this back up since we only have one more week till Kara's swap! I am still not sure what I will be bringing (have to get out in the yard and find some things!)but I am looking forward to seeing Kara's garden and meeting everybody!

Only 5 more days to the swap! The yard is probably in as good of shape it's going to be except for some general straightening up and setting up some tables. On that note, I might be short on chairs so if you can please bring some.

Now I need to get the house in shape since I've been neglecting it horribly with all the work I've been doing in the garden. lol

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on saturday!
