4th of July's wet pictures

Well yesterdays Rain Train turned out to be an express and didn't stop at my place. Luckily early this morning a local train came thru and dropped off 1/2" of liquid gold. The downside is that it fairly well messed up most of today's blooms. Here some that held up.

That color on Night Wings is increadable. Is it really that dark? I always wish for it to rain AFTER I took my daylily pictures for the day but that doesn't always work out.

Very fresh looking blooms!

My question is, how did your Night Wings turn out with that much blue? (at least that's what my monitor shows.) I thought it was listed as a black red self.

newbie_in_nj, Those are the flowers of Sedum album. You may not want this one unless you don't mind it taking over. It would be a perfect one to take over a slope but not garden friendly. I've been ripping it out for years, but the smallest leaf to hit the soil (and many do fall while being ripped out) will start a whole new bunch of plants :O The snaps probably had 'Black Prince' as a parent, but couldn't tell you who the other parent might have been...the flower color is different on mine. I collected the seed from the campus I was a student on. These particular snaps seem to be the most hardy for me, but have had others winter over as well... just not as long :) I started some Snap 'Red and White' this year (not yet blooming) and these were one of the original parents of 'Black Prince'...so now I guess we're having a family reunion LOL!! Been so long since I've been here I almost forgot my password!! Hope you had a great holiday Luvs. We just went to our block party where the neighborhood kinda combined their fireworks to make a great show. I've been horrible with my crafting. Babysitting every day has put a halt to a lot of my activities. Just sitting here looking up Halloween projects for a boutique in the Fall. Hard to work on Fall and Winter stuff in the bright summer though!! Heading over to the other side to see what y'all have been up to. ~Anj

FINALLY chiming in on this thread. The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays - despite the fact that I usually spend it with my mother-in-law. We usually watch fireworks from a boat in the Chesapeake Bay while eating steamed blue crabs and shrimp with corn on the cob. We can see fireworks from many different towns from the water - Baltimore, Rock Hall, Annapolis, and on and on. After the grand finale, I always sing The Star Spangled Banner under my breath and promise myself yet again that NEXT year, I'll sing out loud and see how many people on the hundreds of other boats anchored nearby join in to sing with me. On the family heritage side, I have ancestors that have fought in every war our country has been in since coming to this land in the early 1730's. In the UK, that it not long ago, but here in the US, it's about as far back as possible. DH's family was on the Mayflower, which is 1620. Wonderful stories and comments everyone. I've enjoyed every single one. Thanks for sharing. PAM

Very nice. I love them all but the contrast of Night Wings next to Alabama Jubilee is very striking.

I wish all DL would hold up to rain. They are so beautiful with drops on them.

Love the photos with the rain drops on the flowers, so fresh and beautiful. I like that contrast shot of NW and AJ also...pretty!
I sure hope that "rain train" heads down our way Tom, it's dry and brittle here!

Julie, itt does show as blue under todays lighting. I know that when I take it in full sunlight at times it shows the red. If you look close you can see the underlying red along the edge and ribs.

Yes, I see the red. It's truly amazing how sunlight/cloudiness can affect bloom colors.
