What did I buy?

I "had" to go to Home Depot today to buy garden twine and, of course, it was mandatory that I cruise the plant aisles. This plant jumped into my hand. But...what is it? The label said "Exacum Persian Violet" but this doesn't look nor smell like the plant I know by that name.

The flower color is purple with yellow pistils and/or stamens. The foliage is light green and seems succulent. The stems are somewhat square. I can detect no fragrance from the flower or foliage. I thought of some type of balloon flower (platycodon) but on the right in the 1st photo an elongated bud can be seen and it looks as though it will unfurl (unlike a balloon flower bud).

Anyone know what this is? - June

It is an Exacum Persian Violet commnnly known as a German violet. Sometimes they have an aroma and other times they are sterile and have no smell. Linda

Pics #1&2 look like the rapacious Campanula Rapunculoids. If it is, and you let it be for a short while yet, it should produce a tall raceme of lavender blue bells... although some find them pretty enough, you'll want to pull it up before the flowers come even remotely close to maturing and scattering hundeds of seeds. If I'm right, this will wreck havoc in your garden and you'll be pulling them (like I am) for years to come.

I am a bee lover and apparently they love us, too! I've called my beekeeper to remove 6 hives from our home in the past 10 years. These have all been docile Caucasian honey bees. We're actually on a flight path. A new swarm will stop to rest and end up setting up house here. I fired my pest control people after they "sprayed a new hive for me." This plant was sold at HD, but is from from Riverview Flower Farm. They have won several Environmental Leadership awards from Florida Ag. They do not use chemical pest control.

Googled that penstemon and we are either there or getting darn close with penstemon linarioodes coloradoensis. Right size, flowers, color.... So once you know it’s a penstemon how do you narrow down which one? With so many penstemons google wasn’t helping me much. Is there a site or book or...? And next time I could just write it down :/
