I lost my Mom and my best friend all in one day...
Comments (10)Hello all... thanks for all the kind words. I am still trying to struggle through the day. Somedays I am ok, but others not that great. It was her birthday on October 20th. She would have been 64 or "39" as she would have said. We went to the park and fed the ducks... she always liked to do that. I also brought daisys and popped the tops off and placed them in the water. I miss the way that I would call her and she would be willing to go with me on what ever adventure I wanted to go on that day. She was always there for me. I know I am lucky to have a person like that and that it was my Mom, but it hurts no less. I am trying to build a new "normal". It is rough though because everything I do reminds me of her. I started to move around furniture in our house and I was thinking that everything I touched we bought together. She was a great decorator and I have no decorating sense at all. I just wonder when the feeling that I am completly lost and alone will go away. The holidays are coming and I hate it. I think we are going to plan a vacation at Christmas so I don't have to think about it. I don't know about Thanksgiving. Mom used to make the best mashed potatoes. This is so freaking hard. I think I am going to check into counseling again. It is so hard because I put on a strong face when I am out, but crumble when I get to my car or at home. I talk to my husband, but I don't think he really understands. What do you all do for the holidays?? Any ideas on how to get through them?...See MoreAm I a volunteer tomato plant? What about my friends on the side?
Comments (9)I love volunteer tomatoes :) True they normally germinate later than the store bought plants because they need to wait for the soil to warm. However, comma - if they are not transplanted the root structure excels so they need far less watering and can better withstand dry spells. IF you can allow them to grow where they sprout, I would do that. As recommended cut with scissors those you want to remove. The downside is they are always a surprise and you just don't know what the fruit will be until it is time to harvest (which also can be a bit later). Cherry tomatoes can reproduce like weeds. I have managed to go several years on just volunteers until the venison family found my tomatoes and ate all the fruit before it was even ripe so none ever hit the ground :( The finger smell test is the way to determine....See MoreBottom line: what should I tell my friend with eaten-to-ground hostas
Comments (5)Well, there is absolutely NO chance of the culprit being deer. The very thought of deer in this urban Brooklyn neighborhood makes me laugh. And no, I don't think even a bunny would be around this neighborhood of closely spaced houses with postage stamp sized yards. That leaves slugs and other bad bug guys as the guilty party. I remember seeing holes in the leaves of her hostas & heuchies and telling her she probably had a slug problem and to put down Sluggo. Guess that didn't happen in time. The plants were planted last year, so hopefully have roots to come up NEXT spring. I sure hope so....See MoreI know this isn't a pepper, but any idea what my friend's plant is?
Comments (10)Ok thx Habjolokia!! I'll have to google more about the red coleus. As far as the ant problem, I'll have her try the peroxide & cinnamon. They do have eggs in the soil, their colony started all around the name tag from when her son grew it in school as a science project (pre-K), and when she pulled it out last nite it was covered with tiny ants & eggs. Hopefully we can get the ants to move on somewhere else... Cuz her son would be devastated is anything happened to the plant! Im not even sure what species the ants are. They're tiny & reddish, but too small to be our area's common fire ants (plus I had a couple crawling on my hand & didn't get bitten)....See More- 9 years agoCrenda 10A SW FL thanked cactusmcharris, interior BC Z4/5
