Swap in Deland - 6 Days away!!!

Ok Garden peeps, we know that the big Swap a Que is going on down at Ricky's today. I can't wait to see the pictures.

On Saturday, April 25th at 11:00am at mi ranchero here in Deland, we will be having our own. We will be swapping plants, plant stories and some garden junque.

If you have not already emailed me for directions, please do so. We already have a good list of people, food and plants. I posted an update of the food on the post on the exchanges page.

Between gatormomx2 and I, we will have plenty of tables and quite a few chairs but you might want to bring a chair for outside. We will be exchanging plants and stuff outside and the food will be inside although I have a feeling people will be eating everywhere.

For those of you who may have been on the fence about whether to come because you don't have anything to swap, please come anyway. Many gardens are just recovering from the winter freezes (including my own) or you may just be hearing about this now and don't have time to get something ready. We would really like to meet you anyway.

Try and label the plants that you bring with the name of the plant and your name. I for one am famous for forgetting what I got and from whom although I will admit I am more likely to remember where I got it than what it is called. I do not have a fabulous garden but it is filled mostly with plants from other Gardenweb people and that makes it a special garden.

I am certain that I am forgetting something in this post but you will all help me remember. I am looking forward to seeing you all, whether we have met yet or not!

I wish I could be there!!! Promise to miss me, OK?

Since I have to be in DC on Friday and Monday, I've decided to spend Saturday at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania and Sunday at the Orchid Exhibit at the Smithsonian. They will be wonderful, I'm sure, but honestly I would rather be at the swap. The older I get the more I hate traveling for business.

Sarah, Welcome! We would love to have you come and meet all of your new best gardening friends. It really is a great time. I have met some of the Gardenweb people in person and not met others but it is a great community. I have been gardening for about 4 years now. As for the seeds, if you can start some that would be good but also bring any extra you might want to trade since it is probably not time yet to start some of them. You can also find out much information about the seeds you bought but might not have planted yet and see how they have done for other people. We have people with encyclopedic memories about plants (I'm not one of them though unfortunately) who are great sources of information. cjc45 - I have spiderwort in my yard (which was also neglected for many years) and like it but probably would not buy it on purpose either. You may want to start another thread called spiderwort though since some people who might have an opinion on it will not find your question in this one. Melissa

Bring buckets , boxes or bags to use to haul your goodies away . Label your plants with your user name too so we know who to thank . If you have extra labels - please bring them to share . I will provide name tags for everyone . Please list your screen name and then your real first name . If you prefer NOT to have your photo posted on GW please let photographers know in advance . It will probably be hot - bring sunscreen , bug spray , hat , sunglasses , chairs and drinks . Liquids to share would be nice .

I don't know how many people will see this before tomorrow morning but I wanted to know if anyone is interested in hoyas. I'm not going to bring any unless I know someone is looking for them...however I'll take some cuttings if someone out there makes a request. I'll bring something to eat ... SCPearson/Susan, You are more than welcome to join us at the swap. It is a lot of fun, a wonderful way to add to the plants you already have or are looking for, a great way to meet gardeners and have some "goodies" and lots of fun talk. wispfox/Suzanne You would have to dig up your main plants and divide the main plant into smaller plants, then pot up the smaller plants for the swap, and keep most of the main plant for yourself, (unless you didn't want to keep any for yourself.) Once you have divide up your main plant into the smaller pieces to bring to the swap, carefully replant your main plant and give it plenty of water and tender loving care. Take the small divisions that you made from the main plant, and pot those up in some soil in containers with good drainage. Keep those divisions well watered and in a sheltered, partly shaded area till the swap. hotzenplotz Welcome to you as well. Trust me when I say, you will have a car full of plant divisions and seedlings to start you on your way to beautiful gardens. And lots of us, including myself grow our own veggies, so you should be finding some veggies as well. Only four days to go now! My plants for the swap are all labeled and looking perky. I am looking forward to the first swap of the season. I checked on the blueberry farm yesterday and they are just starting to pick so that means fresh blueberries for the fruit salad!

Please bring extra plant labels and markers if you have some to spare .

Seeds and seedlings are fun to swap too - again if you have extras .

There will be plenty of beginning gardeners attending so PLEASE do not feel intimidated if you are a newbie and have nothing to trade . This is a fun way to return home inspired and energized about gardening .

I'm eagerly awaiting Saturday morning! It seems like a very long time since I've been to a swap, and I miss everybody. Can't wait to meet you new folks, too. Kate, we will miss you, but I promised to bring a trifle in your honor, so we'll be thinking about you.

I was out back after yesterday sorting through my potted plants deciding what to bring but I haven't labled them yet. I've been so busy trying to get the garden in shape for the swap at my house in a couple weeks that I forgot about actually potting up some more plants for swapping! lol

Good morning all. Kate, we will certainly miss you and think of you on Saturday. I'm with you on traveling for business. I used to think it would be so exciting and now I dread anything that requires going through airport security and not sleeping in my own bed.

As of now, it looks like we have approximately 30 people coming. It looks like the weather will cooperate too. I ordered good weather in advance but you know those deliveries are not always on time.

Syl and I will bring over her "alphabet salad dessert".
Some of the plants will be: Yesterday today and tomorrow,
Golden Thryallis,Loquats,crepe myrtles,Old blush rose,
dwarf bamboo,and more.
Also upon request,2'-3' pindo palms.
I may have forgotten some more stuff but if I have I'll bring it over. I'll also bring my seed collection.
Two silvias in the same gathering I do not know how much I can take,right Willy?

I too am looking forward to the swap. Nevertheless, two Silvias at a gathering is a good thing. I will have to be on my best behavior she likes to beat me when I do wrong. LOL

Felix, so you're bringing little loquat trees? That have those little orangey soft fruits with the big brown seeds inside? The kind with soft skin not have to peel it-citrus like? If so could I have one? Wow. There were one of those in my backyard when I was younger and they were so yummy.

Are there any orchid growers going to the swap? I have many clay orchid pots that I don't want anymore.

Bring the orchid pots . If no one at the swap wants them , I know someone else who does - and it's not me ! I just manage to kill them .

If anyone has anything extra that they would like to see gone - bring it ! I'll make sure it goes to the right place if no GWs want it .

AAAAAACCCCKKKK!!! Is it really this close? Work has really been interfering with my personal life! The nerve. I'm hardly ready.

I have not labeled anything and my house is not clean yet but fortunately I have Friday off and Mary to get me organized. I am updating the food & guest list right now and will post some updates on the Exchange page shortly.

Did I say AAAAAAAACCCCKKKK! I can't wait to see you guys on Saturday. We may have a surprise South Florida visitor who will be up this way. Truth is I am almost ready but I just never feel that way.

I'll be there Saturday.Have extra veggie plants to bring. Sold over 200 plants the last couple of weeks. If no oneelse has spooken for the opts I can use them I have 60 orcgis in my greenhouse and a lot of them need to be divided. See everone TOMMARROW
