I have one of those Esperanza bushes in the front, too and it is absolutely gorgeous. Never stops blooming and looks great even after the bad winter we had. I like how you put the red underneath. Really eye catching.

Julie- Yes, it is a really great plant here isn't it? I wonder why they are not more widely planted? It's very drought tolerant and pest free. It looks just like that all summer long.

Amber, it's called Parrot's Beak (Gmelina). It just started to bloom.

Trini, you always have such interesting plants, where do you get them all, do you work for a nursery? My climbing oleander died back a lot from the frost, but is coming back nicely now. Does the parrots beak make seeds?

Katkin, I bought that yellow spider lily at garden show a few years back. I thought it was so beautiful I paid $20 bucks for 1 bulb and I've never been sorry. I'm open for a trade for somthing equaly beautiful and interesting. I got 3 bulbs to trade. If anyone is interested send me an email tell me what you got. These lily bloom in early fall.

Okay SPF, I'm sold now seeing Esperanza, I want your plant! Can't wait to start my orange and my white Lion's Ear either ;-)

Kat, Thanks. The parrots beak does make seeds but everytime I set them, no germination. :( Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Some of these I got at swaps.

Trini I ripped my gmelina out, I don't know how you deal with the thorns. Yours looks beautiful and I miss that but both the neighbors and myself were happy when it was gone.

Keiki I standardized the Gmelina into a small tree so there are no thorns to contend with on the lower part of the plant. If you think the Gmelina is thorny, then what would you say about this bullhorn acacia. (lol) A real beast it is....

Gardencraze, I love to trade with you, I'll have to look around to see what you would like. All my amarylis are done blooming now so I don't know what colors they are. Do you like EE's?

Better late than never. I also have a parrots beak(picture 3) but it's different. I love the hues on the bromeliad.(center)

Gorgeous! Wish I had taken a picture of my yellow plumeria before it finished. It apparently got the memo about not blooming during the wedding.

I have to look up the name for you Carmen. It's like a peacock ginger but technically it isn't. It dies back in the winter and every year I'm afraid it's not going to come back.....but it does.

Trini I tried to make mine a standard also which is why I hate the thorns. LOL everytime I went to trim it I found an excuse why it didn't really need it. I would love to see a picture of your plant sometime, I bet its beautiful.

Nice pictures everyone! This is also really helpful if I ever need to add a plant of a certain color to the garden, although, to be honest I usually don't plan that methodically.

I love yellow in the garden. It's like a burst of sun power. I'm trying to do a yellow edging on my front garden. I have yellow marigold, zinnia, rain lily, bulbine, gold stonecrop sedum, and my latest find .....

Gardengimp, my gaillardia goes to seed and self sows year after year. So you probably won't need more next year. :o)

The ones I have are the frilly petal type. Maybe we could trade seeds.
