Fireflies have black&white striped antennae; black head and large black eyes; wide thoracic shield with dark patch above; smooth white-lined wing covers; wide light-producing body segments compared to other segments. On the soldier beetle above, all body parts are orange; eyes are small and beady; thorax is narrow; wing covers are leathery and all dark; all abdomen segments fairly equal.

Without any hint of the kind of plant sharon is finding these insects on, I'd still have to agree with jean about the spotted cucumber beetle. Sharon described it as 'resembling a ladybug, but longer and more narrow'. I wonder what 'kind of yellow and spotted' means, lol!

Hi Ken, These aren't ladybug nymphs. that's the strange thing about them. I can't find any pictures or descriptions online that would match. no visible head, legs, wings, etc. just very tiny orange worms, and they are difficult to see unless up close. My camera's broken, and my iPhone camera won't zoom or focus well enough to even see them in a picture... Thank you for your advice. I'll keep trying to identify them.

It's impossible to count the number of legs without not squishing it first. Since these insects look like they are feeding on the wood of the windowsill, I can only assume they are some type of woodeater. I just saw one of them crawl out of a crack in the wood of the windowsill near where the windowsill itself and the metal frame of the window pane meet and crawled back in. I don't have a magnifying glass, but it appears to me that there are minute wood shillings leftover on the edge of the window pane metal frame near the crack in the wood of the windowsill. Is it a definite possibility that it is some kind of woodeater, but not a termite since termites are much bigger in size. These are no more than an 1/8th of an inch in length and are even slimmer in width. This last one I saw I figure to be about 1/16th of an inch, but this one looked more darker brown than the others.
