Spring Has Finally Come To The Garden!

My garden has been a little slow to wake up this year but at last spring is finally here! Every day is a new adventure as I walk it to see what is coming back to life. The Cherokee Rose is covered with buds, the most I have ever seen on it, and the native wisteria is putting on it's purple "acorns" in preparation for it's yearly show. The Louisiana Iris has bloom spikes everywhere and the clematis is showing it's appreciation for our unusually cold winter as it scrambles up it's trellis. The peach tree and blueberries are loaded with baby fruit and the first caladiums are emerging from the soil.

I can almost forget the dark days of winter when everything was dead sticks and frozen foliage. When all I could do was sit in the house shivering and wondering what would survive. I may have lost a few things but I will replace them and continue on in my attempt to create an oasis of lovely blooming plants among splashing waterfalls and fruiting trees.

I am sorry to wax poetic here and I guess this should really be on the "conversations" page but, to me, this is why we garden. For the yearly renewal of spring and the joy it brings to our hearts.

Susan, you must have read my mind, as I feel the same way. Everything seems to be coming back to life and it puts a smile on my face every time I go out into the garden. Except for all the lubbers hatching. lol

Nova, that's exactly how I feel everyday as I walk the garden. We are lucky to have such an appreciation of God's creations to give us so much joy! Please show pictures when you can. You know we want to see them!

Really gorgeous pic, Kathy! The rusty object, the beautiful totem, the huge bleeding heart! I'm like Cindee, have started 2 or 3, but they didn't make it either. I have a friend who has a great one planted next to his brick house, under the overhang part. It is like yours, beautiful, and just gets bigger every year. I'm thinking that they're hardy, IF you can ever get them through the first or second season. Maybe more petting at first, never letting it dry out at all maybe, which might have happened to mine. I might try one in a container next time. In fact, bleeding hearts are one of the reasons I've been planting mainly succulents now lol. ~T

Beautiful collection!! Rob I do not use gritty mix for my Adeniums. I use what I call a chunky mix. It's made of half coir pieces and chips, half Growstone GS2 and large perlite sifted. I'm attaching some recent photos so you can see the size of the pieces. Indoors I use jumbo garden trays under my fabric pots. I buy mine at Greenhouse Megastore online. Tracy

Susan,my sentiments exactly. I just wish you had posted some pictures.
I can not believe that the Chinese rain bells,that you gave me last year, have sprouted from the roots. I thought they were goners. I love them. Also,the cigar plants.

Wax away, Susan! I feel the same way. It's fun to find out what folks in Central Florida are experiencing, as it means we (in Northern Florida) are just behind you.

I didn't know there was a "conversations" page. I'll have to check that out.

Beautiful thoughts and a beautiful garden. I spend most of the time in my garden rolling ideas around in my head. Not just about gardening but about life in general. I think we all have spring fever. Man, what a winter!

I love how you got the False Rosemary's bloom like that. . . . do you have a shot of the rest of the plant?

Susie- Here is a picture of the whole plant -

I love this Florida Native that I got from a fellow GW member, Kara. I have had no luck propagating it but I would like to edge the whole bed with it. It is tough as nails and blooms prettily.
