The Grandkids and their Grandpa In Florida

You all know these have been some stressful weeks for us. Having Christiana and Anthony come to stay with us was so uplifting. I thought you might all enjoy this little slide show of these wonderful kids making their Grandpa feel so very important to them. Christiana was here before Dennis went for surgery. She got to do a lot of special things with both of us. She loved the gardens, baking for Grandpa and Uncle Dan and swimming.

Anthony was here while Dennis was in the hospital but we made some special photos to take to his Grandpa every day. He especially got a kick out of his Uncle Dan who likes to eat in bed and watch sports. He joined Dan every evening and even tho he had had his dinner, he managed to share

his uncle's dinner in front of the tube with him. Enjoy and thank you all AGAIN for holding us close to you!

Terrific photos CindeeA! Adorable children, and your home and gardens look lovely. So nice to see Dennis up and about.

I'm so jealous of your beautiful flowers, and your Bananas look MUCH better than mine! What are you feeding them?

How about "Aunt" Nancy or Nan, at most. She might be gone in a year, then who will they call grammy. I think you should make it clear to your FIL that unless/until he marries, at most they can be a courtesy Aunt. My XMIL had a second husband and now has a SO, the kids called both of the "uncle", as in Uncle Mike and Uncle Frank. My XFIL had 4 wives before he drank himself to death. He had two of them for such a short time, I'm not sure the kids called them anything, and the last one I think we just called her by her first name. She was kind of weird, so we didn't spend much time with them.

Kids can and will learn different rules in different houses! I'm an aunt, not a grandparent. When my sisters' kids were little, they ran wild at home. When they came to my house they tried it too. I corrected them: We only eat in the kitchen or outside. We don't run in the house. We ask if we want to play with something, and put it away when we're done. Every time they came over, I greeted them with a big hug and then said the rules again in a warm manner. After a few visits, I asked *them* to tell me what the rules were. Only once did I have a problem after that. They played in my stepdaughter's room and made a huge mess, taking a game with tiny pieces and flinging them all over the room. I also found glass decorative marbles from my bathroom in their pockets. I made them clean up the room and close the door, then told them since they could not respect others' things and play nicely, they were banned from her room. Since their parents never enforced any rule or punishments, they would head for her room every time they came over after that, and I would remind them they were not allowed in there. After 4 months I allowed them back in with a reminder about what happened and if they played nicely they could have their privelege back. They know I mean business so things were fine. (although I'm sure I'm known as the "mean aunt" sometimes!)

On Sunday, June 1st, it will be my hubby and my 40th wedding anniversary and the last day I saw my wonderful grandma alive. We went down to her house in our wedding outfits to see her. We called a couple times on our honeymoon to see how she was doing. We came home early so I could see her one last time but she died but we were 30 minutes to late. I still miss her dearly! I would have loved for our 3 children to have known her. She was one of a kind.. I try so hard to be a Grandma like she was.. You are in my thoughts and prayers for days to come. Travel safely. Susie

Really though, what a nice family. Adorable kids and good lookin adults as well. You look so happy and proud. With good reason.

Thanks guys. Dennis was actually grilling before his surgery day, Katkin. But it gave us so much hope and pleasure to have the The grandkids here, cheering us up all the time. Dennis will be back at his grill soon!!!

Lisa I throw whatever fert I have on hand at the bananas. I really like the organic mix I get to blend in with soil or even water to feed everything. (I'll tell you what it is, after I look at the sack-it is wonderful) By the way, I was thinking of you today. Did that blackberry I rooted for you ever take off? If not I have discovered another shoot starting if you want it.

Tonight wass not so pleasant for Dennis. He has been having sharp pains in his side today and after a 1/2 hour of attempting to lay down in bed, he finally went back to the recliner. He is only parttially laid back and sound asleep with his head resting on his hand. Surely his neck is going to be sore tomorrow. But we go back to the Doc in the morning. So I am going to curl up next to him tonight on the sofa. You all know how much I love my him, he's my world. It pains me to see him hurting. We will get through this! Love you guys!

I'm glad you shared it here, Cindee...I would have missed it on the conversations page. And besides, the slide show clearly demonstrated how much kids love to be in the garden! Plus it showed off your beautiful plants as well as your beautiful family!

I missed out on all that was going on with you somehow, but I'm glad to know you are on the back side of it and things are getting better for your hubby! Sending you loads of healing energy and good wishes!!

Hey Lisa, the Organic mix I use and really like is by Miragle Gro and it is just called "Organic Choice". "all Purpose Organic Plant Food". It's dry and stinky but man, do all my plants love it. I actually bought it by mistake, I thought I was buying soil that contained organic fert/food. I am happy for my mistake. I plant everything with it now. I mix it in with regular soil for new plantings and around all of my established plants and trees and water it into the soil by soaking or before rain. The bananas seem to particularily love it. If you don't get a chance to try some before Ricky's I'll bring you a baggie. A little bit goes a long way.
