Anyone growing the new Indigo Rose tomato this year?

I am trying the Indigo Rose this year. Anyone else trying them?
Last year I had some OSU blue tomato seeds that I purchased on ebay. I don't know if I got gyped or what but they never got that blue lol. They were in full sun. They did make tons and tons of meaty little tomatoes that worked out great for salsa and went all the way through summer nicely until it froze. These new Indigo seedlings' foilage really look dark purple. I got them from a catalog this time :/

I grew the OSU blue tomato (Tom's seeds) and I got some plants that were regular color and others were blue because the strain then was not stable. Last fall I grew Indigo Rose (Amberroses'seeds) and all the fruits were purple, when ripe they are red in the bottom, they were prolific and pretty but lack in flavor. When mixed in a salad, sauce or roasted in the oven were okay.

Ahhh so maybe that's why my OSU weren't colored up like they were supposed to be. They did have good flavor though so who knows lol.
I hope the indigo don't taste too terribly bad. I'd better just plant a few plants. Your Indigo tomatoes are beautiful.

I ordered a grafted Indigo Rose . I also ordered a Sunsugar also grafted. When the package arrived from TT, the Sunsugar was dead. My money was refunded, although it took them about 6 weeks to do so. Anyway it arrived around May 15th. Which is really not that late for zone 6a. May 1st is the earliest one could put tomatoes outside here anyway. I did have some, and had to bring them in a few times until May 1st this year. Anyway it soon caught up to my other plants and is growing it's first fruits now. Impressive growth. My store bought, and plants from seed are now not as big as this grafted IR. Also it has rained here a lot and I lost some leaves to too much water on all my plants except the grafted IR. So the graft seems to be super hardy. Very impressive so far. No ripe tomatoes yet off of it, I did harvest a few off another plant. Anyway soon some will be ready. We still have 2 and a half months to 3 months of harvesting weather to go. I'm happy with progress of all my tomatoes as we have had such a late start here.

Ralph, in years past I would have had tons to swap. I grew for a friends church plant sale in addition to my friends and family. But this year I cut back to just friends and family and myself. It was just too much work to grow that many (and the promised help never seemed to materialize) so I am making my life easier this year! I used Al's 5-1-1 recipe for potting soil in the past. Last year I was in a crunch for time so I used Miracle Gro (not moisture control) on Craig's recommendation. He uses that in his containers. I had an outstanding year for tomatoes!!! It might also have been I found a great liquid fertilizer other than MG? Or it could have been the great summer we had? But I won't argue with success! I will have to look at the Carolina Gardening Forum. Won't be able to make the swap this year. I'm in Greensboro, and have a new Grandson so not so much time on my hands.

Even if you get a stable strain, the blue (anthocyanin) pigment in the fruit only shows up where the fruit is exposed to sunlight. That's why the tops of the fruits tend to be blue. Fruits in the interior of the plant or otherwise shaded will have little or no blue pigment.

So (to an extent) you can increase the blue color by pruning off any branches that shade the fruit. No, I am not trying to restart the endless "should you prune tomatoes or not?" debate - just pointing out the role of sunlight in pigment formation.

YES I have one in the ground. Its flowering and small fruit currently. I'll try to figure out how to post a pic.
