I have the ti known as "kiwi" :) Probably could find quite a few different varieties nearby.

Mayu, thanks! Toni, D. surculosa is the spotted-leaf plant. D. sanderiana is the green/white striped one, leaning way back/out of its' pot on the table. Tsuga, really? (Is my surprised face genuine? 'Cuz I really have no idea what you mean. Really. I swear.) Teen, yes. As Karen said, they chop up a plants' trunk into little pieces, about 3", seal the ends with wax. When you lay it on soil and water, it usually grows a Ti plant. I wouldn't recommend this as a preferred propagation method, but was widely used in the past as a novelty item. Sounds like one can still find one, but it should be pretty easy to find a nice-sized potted plant, which would be a much faster method of having a sizeable plant. The one in my pic came from WM for $10-$12 I think. A few of the tops have been shared in trade. In time the growth from those stumps will be tall again. Sorry to hear of your little ol' thief! I'm glad she doesn't live around here - most of my plants are in containers and are sitting around in common areas of the 'hood where everyone walks. Anyways, Palms and Plumies (in my mind) naturally go well together. I planted a Key West Pink at my church with an areca behind and Pheonix Robellini in front. Tagami Heliconias all around and varigated flax at the border. My Hawaiian Tis were lined up along the wall, but I took them out and replaced with Snow Bushes. There was no thought or plan to this arrangement (it was an emergency planting to save certain plants from TS Fay), but it has grown together nicely with that tropical, island feel. I know that is not the correct way to landscape, but it taught me a lesson in over-stressin', because that is what I'd been doing for months prior to the storm threat. Perhaps someone else here will give you some better advice about your plants' companions. This is the best place to ask! Later Susie

When you cut off the top, stick it into the ground and it will root fairly easily. I have one growing in the center of my island by the palms and several more where they get the morning sun and they're all doing well.Some of them have multiple stems because of the pruning. Regina
