When you cut off the top, stick it into the ground and it will root fairly easily. I have one growing in the center of my island by the palms and several more where they get the morning sun and they're all doing well.Some of them have multiple stems because of the pruning. Regina

I have been growing ti for 25 years. The red and green have intermingled over the years, and I also purchased special varieties, which have mingled with the original ones, and I save the seed and plant them. Now I have some really unusual and subtly beautiful varieties, which are as yet unnamed. Ti plants are fun to grow from seed you save, watching them grow and change in appearance. A plant may look very different grown in sun or shade. Some plants get brighter colors in sun, some in shade, very individual. At first, they all look the same...green. Just slight differences in color of stems. The older they get, the more color they show. Also, reveal different habits, the way they display and arrange their leaves around the stalk. Width of leaves is another interesting variable, as is the sheen of the leaves. There are many named varieties, one of the prettiest and best growing is 'Miss Andrea', small, bushy, quick to make keikis.

I left an 8 foot cutting in my pond--meaning to get to it---for about 6 months. All the leaves fell off, but there was a ring of roots right where they were just below the water line. I cut off the bottom 3 feet (that had been underwater all that time), and potted up both pieces. They're both developing leaves. This stuff is hard to kill. If your area is humid like Hawaii, you could just leave them out. If it's drier, I'd put the cuttings in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel.
