A very sad time for our friend Ginny

Our good friend Ginny (Honalee) has just recently lost her dear husband and best friend Wayne. At such a very difficult time and winter fast approaching, can I please call upon some of the nearby Gardenweb buddies to kindly reach out and assist Ginny with necessary garden chores and moral support. Many peonies are waiting to be planted, leaves need to be raked and general garden clean up is required. In the last two years, we've been privileged with the opportunity to come to know Ginny and the good open hearted expressive and sharing person she is. Ginny, I truly wish that many more folks were of your spirit!

Please drop me a private message to obtain Ginny's personal contact information. I'll be away for a few days, though will frequently check my email. Please give freely of your hugs and support, I know how very appreciative one's assistance shall be.

It was probably a while ago, Sue... I finished this year after having to intermit already one whole year [which, had I been more familiar with the program, I'd have known was ridiculous, too ...it was this same lady who had me intermit instead of using a project I was 'sick' during as one that we are allowed to drop each year.] It's programming/computing. Java mostly but covering much more than that and a wonderful way to study, IMHO. We look at the entire field, have to know about debates or controversies, have to know many technical details that I've never had to study before when taking programming courses. The "3rd year" is an advanced year that is less about programming but all my pals are taking it and 3 years looks better than 2 on a resume ;) There is no on-campus part that year, but I believe there is another graduation at the Sheldonian afterwards. I REALLY enjoy these folks and instead will be back to faceless, impersonal peers for my 2nd year if they don't allow me back in plus not being with my group for the advanced part either :( Not to mention twidling my thumbs for a year for no good reason, the dollar decreasing against the pound each day too it seems :( If it weren't so against their written codes and ridiculous that everyone academic supports me up through the directors I may not be so angry about it. Then again the audacity of not notifying folks at all is just inexcusable on its own. I better hush... there are way too many tedious points where this office's head is up its.... Gotta go ;) Keep those fingers crossed! On paper, I've won this thing already but God am I worried :(

I also had this happen, so has the Huntington. Mine while I was giving a program for free to a garden club group of little old ladies, one took my crystal bowl, what I was using to display a flower I found it in her bag that she was taking home. Plants have been stolen right under the gruards nose at the Huntington, $10,000 of Schick Hybrids, and we had a lift of $30.000 Bonsai plants over the the five foot fence, it had to be an inside job with a truck. The place has guards at night they must leave at the front gate past a guard station. They had to have a large truck for a lift of that size and a crew of at least 4 men. It happens. boxerpups - such a sad situation for that young girl - and surely her sister too. it does sound like she is acting out and I do agree that you should contact the teacher. maybe someone can intervene with her. life is tuff enough for young people today and that girl has more than any one young person should have working against her. i don't think i'd go the court route (don't think you will either). in the end it could cause more trouble for your dd and your family than it's worth. i'm not saying the young girl isn't worth it or that we don't have the right to be upset when someone damages our property. but in the end, a fridge is a fridge and hopefully will be fixed w/o much expense. OTOH, I do think the young girl needs confronted about it. for her good! and i think it is something you could handle. holding someone to account is not mean, it is the more loving thing to do for them. short term upset for long term gain. it might not show in her in the near future, but it will be going around in her head that someone was more concerned about her future than a material thing. it sounds like she has been raised to think that things are more important than she is. until you decide how to fix the fridge door, i think i'd use it as a prayer reminder for that young girl. and a thank you for the blessings you and your family have in each other. and as for getting a new puppy after the loss of another very loved furbaby, my belief is that the best way to honor my precious gone to heaven furbaby is to find another furbaby in need of a loving home and lots of spoiling! i think that makes them very happy!

Oh no. This is terrible. One of my concerns is the guilt that these kids will feel as they grow older. I had a great relationship with my mom (especially as far as teenage girls and their moms go) and I have still struggled with guilt issues since her death then years ago. I struggle with my own desire to be a normal teenage girl with my own life (healthy) instead of spending every minute with her looking after her while she died of cancer (unhealthy). I can only imagine how your friend's children will struggle with guilt that they "let" their father poison them against their mother, which was her "last straw" before she ended her life. This ISN'T their fault, because they are only children, but I am concerned that they will have HORRIBLE HORRIBLE guilt issues later in life and feel that way. Recall that I have had "honesty pop" this evening: I am frequently overwhelmed by guilt that I asked if I could still go out with my friends that night when my mom told me that she wasn't going to get better and I talked about how I felt with them instead of her. I feel terrible about how that must have made her feel and feel that I was a horrible wretch of a daughter for what I said. But I also know that my mom knew I loved her and just didn't know how to deal at home, so I can (mostly) forgive myself. If I still occasionally feel like a terrible person and bawl my eyes out for that, how will her kids feel?? Poor kids. Their father is a monster for poisoning these children against their mother, setting them up for huge guilt disasters later in life.

I talked to Ginny yesterday and she has a lot of bulbs to plant and yard work to be done. Said she would phone when she is ready and hopefully the weather will hold out.Here is a big hug for you Ginny ((((((((( G )))))))))

Hello Lynn ... I've been in touch with Ginny via email and intend to soon speak with her again. The weather has been unseasonably cold with frost penetrating the ground and certainly would make any plantings a difficult task, plan B might be to store unplanted peonies and other things in my attached garage or cold room. I'm hoping for a break in the weather ... today, it was mentioned of this being one of the coldest Octobers on record.

Hi Ginny,

I am sad to hear this news. We have chatted on other forums. You have a loving, kind heart with a quiet strength. I wish I could help in your garden too. I believe you will get through this difficult time. We are with you from this community. I give you my hugs and love. Maybe when you look at your garden you can remember all of us being here for you. In time I hope you will share some of your memories with us.

To all my GW friends I first must say Thank You all for your kind words and condolences. I read this thread the day after my dear friend Terry posted it but could not find the words to respond. I am still lost for words.

Thank you Terry for extending your kindness. So very much appreciated. Thank you Ingrid for your offer to help with my garden and mending my broken heart. Your care and understanding is priceless.

My life did a complete turn around on Oct. 15th when my Wayne did not return from work. He passed peacefully in his sleep with his boots on, on his way home from work on the bus; the way he always wanted to.

I am so blessed to share my life with an amazing family of friends and my beautiful daughters, sons in law and grand daughters. Wayne's passing was sudden and unexpected and saddened us all so deeply. I am so very grateful our bonds are strong and our friends are loyal and steadfast.

Wayne lived his life large in every way. He did everything to the Nth degree. My life is very quiet now but so very enriched because he was my husband. He gave so much of himself to everyone and everything but especially to me, our daughters and our puppies.

Wayne passed on his 18th sober birthday. His favorite song was Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. My guardian angel who will watch over us all, always.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference

And please remembwer that our fingerprints never fade from the lives we touch.

Ginny, thank you for telling us about your husband Wayne and posting photos of him along with his helpers. Life is never the same when loved ones pass, the void is goes unfilled, they no longer walk through the door, their voice is no longer heard on the other end of the phone, their physical presence and touch is torn from our lives, we're left with only memories to live on with us.

Well, it has been a tough month for me and my family. We would have celebrated Wayne's 68th birthday today. It has been quiet around here even with the shelties. All our kids are out of town or out of province and although I talk with them regularly, it is just not the same in this old house. I miss Wayne so much and still doesn't seem real at times. As you have expressed Terry, there is a large void where his large presense was and the absense of his voice is deafening. Even though I go through the motions of life every day, it still feels like I just want time to stand still!

I am so grateful that I have such supportive people around me and my fellow garden webbers to communicate with. I look forward to the spring and I look forward to ending this chapter in this old house. In the meantime, I am keeping myself busy with my sewing and clearing out what is no longer needed here.

Peggy,I have been unable to see the garden for a couple of weeks now thanks to all the white stuff we got but I have named my new peonies after each and every one of you on this forum. Guys are red and white ones! Ladies are pink! :) I have stored them in the garage in peat moss and sand. Hopefully everyone will survive the winter.

Lynn, the dogs are definately keeping me busy and I have to do poop patrol now. :$ Good grief!

Ingrid, I am planning on a trip out to see you when ever you are ready for company providing the roads are clear. I look forward to getting out in the country!

Cindy, I'm so happy to have met you but sad for the circumstances. Thank you so very much for the casseroles. You are a great cook! Food is always good for the grieving! :)

I'll be ok sooner or later. Strong Scottish stock.
