That's terrible! Whoever stole it probably doesn't even know how to take care of it. I'd take a drive around town and look for it, and wouldn't hesitate to take it back if I found it.

Better yet. Any plant that has that kind of value to me, I would buy a small tracking device, like the ones they use for pets in case they get lost or stolen, and drive around the neighborhood tracking for it..They make chips small enough for key chains..You could stick one in a place no one would see it.

I hate this!

When we still lived in town, I had huge pots of cacti and succulents walk away.

Once, I had a big bouganvillea walk off. I was actually able to track it down. It was planted in a flower bed about two blocks away.... plus there was a broken pot and dirt trail where the idiot dropped it.

let's just say there are NO boug.s in flower beds in WV.
SO... I called my uncle the sherrif.. he really gave them a rough time, and by that afternoon they were on my front porch with apologies, new soil, new pot, and plant.

Chrisware, good for you, to find the bouganvillea again. What a shame of people can't even get their own plant and steal other's people plants. Please tell us a little more of how you tract it down. I don't think the person who stole my plant will keep it around this neighborhood.

I'm very sorry, it sounds like you loved this adenium very much. No doubt you have watched it grow and anticipated its flowering for years :(. Its heart breaking when someone takes your things!

That is just horrible Marie...I am SO sorry that happened! You know I have some nice plants in my front entry way and I never really gave it much thought...I've never had any problems so far...but when you hear of stories like this you can't help but wonder. I'm really sorry...I hope someway you are able to find it or find the person that took it...and you get it back. I know that its a long shot, but I'm hoping for you... It is SO pretty too!

I am so sorry to hear of this Marie. I get nervous having my tropicals and tropical fruits outdoors for this reason. How can people sleep with themselves when they do such a thing? Don't they realize that if they asked you where you got it or if they could get a piece, you would have helped them? Instead they have to make you sad/angry and what did that do for everyone?
I believe in Karma and if you willingly cause harm to someone, you are going to get it pack to fold!

Nancy and Andrew, when I friends warned me, I didn't give it a serious thought. Thinking, who would do such a thing? I took many of my good pots to the back yard now. I lived in the newer subdivision (6-8 years old) right at the corner of the entrance with so much traffic comes and goes. I displayed many of my beautiful pots letting the pass-by people enjoyed them with me. Especially during flowers season,
but not anymore. Thank you all again. I hope the person who took it can't sleep and return it to me.

I'm so sorry. We've all had plants stolen. I caught my neighbor with the kale he had pulled out of my flowerbeds walking down the street with his granddaughter, also carrying kale plants. His excuse was "they were just growing there"!! My mom had a 12', over 200lb, euphorbia stolen off her porch. It took 4 of us to move it. We still don't know how they stole the thing, in less than 5 minutes. There are locks on our gates and big dogs.

I went to a C&S show 2 weeks ago, where some of the most rarest plants were on display...

They made you leave your bags at the entrance of the doorway, and anything you could fit a plant into..Despite this, 6 plants were stolen, some with a value of over 500 dollars!
One man was growing his for 35 years, givin to him from someone whom had passed away from cancer, and the next day when I went back to make some new friends, all he could do was cry talking about it to me.It only grew a few inches a year, a very slow grower, not replacable as he said...It is a bummer..

Know you have to watch them like a hawk, and it is a shame.

Put an ad in the paper explaining how you contracted a rare fungal ailment from one of your other plants and almost died and had to destroy your whole collection. Go on to implore the thief to get themselves tested before it's too late. If you can't get your stuff back you might as well worry whoever took it a little bit. You'll feel better.

I also had this happen, so has the Huntington. Mine while I was giving a program for free to a garden club group of little old ladies, one took my crystal bowl, what I was using to display a flower I found it in her bag that she was taking home. Plants have been stolen right under the gruards nose at the Huntington, $10,000 of Schick Hybrids, and we had a lift of $30.000 Bonsai plants over the the five foot fence, it had to be an inside job with a truck. The place has guards at night they must leave at the front gate past a guard station. They had to have a large truck for a lift of that size and a crew of at least 4 men. It happens.
