cane borers in my golden elder

My golden elder is showing signs of what I think is an infestation of cane borers. The ends of some of the new branch growth are wilting and there is a little hole in the branch at the point where the wilting begins (usually about 6 inches down from the tip of the stem). This happened last year too. So far the plant is still doing quite well and growing, but obviously isn't growing as much as it could since the ends of the branches are being killed.

Is there anything besides pruning off the infested branches that can be done?
