Things to consider once the cold wave passes

Remember, many larger trees, palms, and shrubs will not show the bulk of their damage for ten days after a frost or freeze. Don't be in a rush to cut windburned leaves and fronds.

Don't overwater, the plants are in shock and will not be able to take up as much water as they normally would require. Give them a day or two to warm up.

Don't fertilize. Ditto above and you really shouldn't be fertilizing in the winter anyhow!

If it's half dead, eventually it's gonna be all dead; cut it off now. Once a palm frond starts to die, it will not get better, ever, I promise.

When you trim, cut hard. I have Copperleaf - Acalypha wilkesiana - that I'm going to cut 2/3 of the plant away and a Pinwheel Jasmine that's going to get trimmed to within 12" of the soil. Now's the time to do it.
