Yeah, lucky for me, I already did that sort of thing... been on a repotting spree. Forced myself to do it while it was cold and gray. Now, it's paying off.

Two and a half inches of rain since July of '06 in LA. I'm dreading a long hot spring and summer unless we get some serious storms soon. Even with almost a whole yard of natives and xerics, the watering is really time consuming. I especially want to get the large conifers some water now, as there have been almost no deep, drenching rains this year.

The forecast seems bright but "gloomy" when it comes to precipitation. No rain in sight for the next 10 days, only getting sunnier and hotter. Let's hope another March Miracle comes.

On the positive side, all your apricots, plums, pluots, peaches, nectarines would have tremendous fruit sets this year that you will have to thin them out. Last year we had rain for weeks that there were plenty of diseases and very rare fruit sets on most apricot cultivars. We can't have everything at the same time.

I hate the heat! I cannot remember it being this dry ever! I have watered my front lawn about 3 times this month... and 2 last month, and I never touch it from Dec-Apr. I even mowed it yesterday! (St. Augustine)

I miss the rain so badly... but I do recall some severe storms possibly during April, so hopefully we can get some good drenching. I am not looking forward to this 'super hot summer' that they claim we're gonna get.

Do you remember back in October when all the forecasters said it would be a wet El Nino winter? I even broadcast sowed many hundreds of seeds thinking maybe this is the month with some sustained rainfall.

Well at least it will be beach weather for seven months or so.

So Cal is under a fire weather watch from san diego to san luis county! Im sure thats never happened before this time of year. We are suppossed to be near 90 down here for a few days. It is good weather for fruit trees to break dormancy, but I cant believe Ive been watering them all winter!

Oh, I dunno... I remember the huge droughts of the 70's... at least in No. California, we had water restrictions. And according to historical records, this isn't uncommon... specially with So. Cal, which is a desert. No one remembers people painting their lawns green in the 70's? :)
I remember watering the plants with the bath water, if we got a bath that day.

We certainly have mixed weather up here in the north. Cool and gloomy one day or even half a day; a few sprinkles, then it clears up for the rest of the day. Or two days of cool and grey weather followed by one or two full days of sun, although it is still cool. Not too much rain, but about two weeks ago we had one or two days. It is sunny and cool today so far.

I remember the drought, too. Seven years of drought and water rationing the last two or three years; we even were asked to supply water to L.A. area, it was so bad; then we had to consider buying from Oregon. That was about the time it cleared up.

Southern Cal is not all a desert, it is semi arid where most cities are, and in the mojave it is a desert. It is looking to be the driest recorded year ever in LA, going back 130 years or so.

Remember time change tonight, days only getting longer an hotter. Funny, I had a early zuch. in a low spot that froze. deader than a doornail. well the little guy is coming back, leaves the size pencil eraser, but stem and roots, well im eager to see what happens.

The high temperature today (so far) in Camarillo is 94 degrees. That beats the previous daily record by 6 degrees.

I'm pretty sure we also broke records since we were well over 80º. I've been deep watering all winter. I'm going to need to drag water down to the Oleanders at the front of the property... what a pain!
