Two plants need ID

Here is a flower and a piece of vine from a plant I saw while walking my dogs this morning. I was off the Flagler trail but in a built up area with a lot of wild jacaranda so it could be a wild native or an escaped cultivated plant. I googled around but could not find it. Anyone know?

Here is the second plant. I know I got it in trade. It grows a very long stem with multiple rosettes. The rosettes get as big as my hand with all my fingers outstreched. Each rosette tries to root anywhere it can to make a new plant. Its hard to see but the white spray of flowers is coming out of the middle of the rosette and smells wonderful! I now have many of these and many babies on the way. I do not know if it is a house plant or something I could use as a ground cover or I should hang it from a tree... anyone know what it is?

1st one is Tube Flower Clerodendrum indicum
Not a native but has naturalized all over Florida

Thanks OldNed. I collected some "jacaranda" tree from the same place and after googling around I have discovered they are really Monkey Ear or Enterolobium cyclocarpum seeds. From what I read people used to plant them for shade until they discovered how big and messy they are. So I guess I will not pot them up!

Is the Clerodendrum indicum one of the bad clerodenrums that I need to avoid?

I I'm not sure what the second one is (it might be a Sedum or Echeveria, I can't really tell from the photo), but the bluish looks like an Echeveria, although I can't tell what species. As for the way they've fallen over, I think that's natural. So long as they're firm and not flimsy, I wouldn't worry about it. You might eventually want to just cut off the top section and reroot it when it's warmer. I have a plant that looks like your bluish one that I rerooted partially because it was leggy like yours (mostly because the cat broke it, though).

Hi & welcome, That 2nd plant looks like a Haworthia (like medium light, bright, but indirect sun). It could use some perlite in that mix to make it faster draining. Looks good otherwise.

The first is a Peperomia scandens. Second is a form of “pothos” - probably ‘Marble Queen’ - Epipremnum aureum.

Anita, I think the second plant may be callisia fragrans. I've seen it at Selby. They have huge, thick stands of it as a ground cover. It looks real nice. However, the fact there are such huge, wide strands makes me think it may be a plant you have to be careful with. Seems to propagate extremely easily. Keep a close watch, but enjoy.

Thanks Anna. I went on Dave's and at first I thought it was not the plant. But the more I looked into the more I am convinced it is. This plant AND the clerodenrum AND the Monkey Ear tree are all bad. The basket plant an monkey ears are on this list:

The Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) has urged FloridaÂs nursery and landscape industry to stop production, sale and use of the following plants that are widely recognized to be invasive in natural areas. FNGLA also urges gardeners and consumers to consider alternatives to these plants.
Here are the plant species on the "do not sell" list released in 2001by the Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association.

The clerodendrm is not on an invasive list as far as I can tell but I have read several reviews that claim it is one of those cleredendrum that will sucker like crazy and take over.

Too bad about both the basket plant and the clerodendrum as they are very pretty. But I have learned - I put both the Bridal Dombeya and the Mexican Petunia in my yard and I am having a heck of a time getting rid of them!

Thank you! I finally know the name

I've had this plant for over thirteen years never knowing the name. I looked it up in Dave's garden under the name
"callisia fragrans". It is what I have.

Anita, I have never had trouble with it. It does propagate easily and it spreads but I have always kept it under control without any trouble. One of my favorite plants. Easy to grow and I love the color of the foliage and flowers.Mine are in the shade garden but I am planning on planting some
in the sun.

Anita, the second one is 'basket plant'. You may even received it from me.
I it not invasive at all, easy controlled by pulling it out where you do not want it. It does great in shade, half shade or even full sun, but it does look its best in shade.
Over time, it fills in spaces as groundcover. Oh,and my dogs trample all over it, it does not seem to mind too much.

Clerodendrum Minahassae is quite similar to the one in your photo, but much better behaved.
I've had mine growing for several years now, outside my back door. Trained into a multi-trunked standard, it blooms heavily in fall and spring, and enough all summer long, loses a lot of leaves in the wintertime, and has never suckered away from the original root. It does "branch sucker" a bit, but I prune them out.

Evelyn - thanks for that info. I will try it in the garden - I have the "dog-tolerant" requirement too!

Susan - regarding the Bridal Dombeya. I mispoke. I meant to sey eEdding Bells - I was getting it confused with my Bridal Veil Clerodendrum.

But even with that name I am not 100% certain what it is (other than undesireable). I first got a piece at UCF arboretum. I should have known it was bad since there were so many "babies". But I was new to FL and had not yet encountered the suckering behavior of some plants here and just thought it was a seedling. The people at the arboretum were not sure what it was but looked it up and told me Wedding Bells Dombeya.

Just this Fall I went to the Arboretum's silent auction and the bonsai guy there told me it was a Dombeya called Florida Hydrangea and he said it was vile and evil for its suckering.

Now I thought "Florida Hydrangea" refered to Dombeya Seminole which is a very desireable plant and - so naturally - very difficult to propogate!

Thanks for the info. I believe that most Dombeyas are referred to as 'Florida Hydrangea'.
