Two plants need ID and help.

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I very recently began collecting plants when I relocated for law school and am living alone. I bought my first succulents and I have no idea what they are called. I think they are very common. Anyone know the names?

Secondly, both of them seem to have fallen over. The thin one I expected to fall over, it almost looks like a hanging plant when it gets bigger, but the larger one...it seems to have gotten too top heavy and it won't stand up and looks a little sad laying on its side.

Am I doing something wrong? Are they supposed to fall over? I'm using Cactus soil that is sold at home depot, and giving them water once a week. They both seem relatively healthy other than falling over. I have some other succulents which are doing very well and I don't do anything different for them.

I I'm not sure what the second one is (it might be a Sedum or Echeveria, I can't really tell from the photo), but the bluish looks like an Echeveria, although I can't tell what species.
As for the way they've fallen over, I think that's natural. So long as they're firm and not flimsy, I wouldn't worry about it. You might eventually want to just cut off the top section and reroot it when it's warmer. I have a plant that looks like your bluish one that I rerooted partially because it was leggy like yours (mostly because the cat broke it, though).

These look etiolated to me - grown under light that is too weak. I would also suggest making your own soil; a good mixture for plants like these would be 50% potting soil, 25% builder's sand (NOT play sand) and 25% pea gravel. I have never seen commercial cactus potting mix that was worth a hoot. I agree with Gliese, they are some member of the Crassula family.

Hi & welcome, That 2nd plant looks like a Haworthia (like medium light, bright, but indirect sun). It could use some perlite in that mix to make it faster draining. Looks good otherwise.

I grow Schick hybrids, most are not as tall as that one, and darker green, though the spines and ribs seem the same, and the Schick hybrids do have all of the species in them that is mentioned above, including Rebutia. Well not quiet all of them. And they can be figured out by the flower, if you have the flower chart in color to do so. Keep your labels make duplicate copies of them, and put one in the bottom of the pot. Not all of them look alike, some hardly have any spines, and others have long ones, Bob Schick used to tell them apart by looking at them. Sorry for such a long post, Echinopsis are grown just like any other cactus and need the same care, for flowering give them a low 0-20-10 fertilizer approx. The middle number must be higher, the first number very low. No water in the Winter, they must have the chill and dormant periods to flower. They are extremely hardy, will flower 6 mo. at least of the year from the end of April to the end of Sept. depending on you climate, light where you grow them, feeding.
