We missed any rain associated with this system and although it has been blustery it doesn't sound like we got the really heavy winds either.

Did you read in today's paper about the meteorologist who is contesting 6 of the 15 storms named as tropical storms to dispute that global warming is responsible for the uptick in storms?

Yeah, that guy is Dr. Neil Frank, a god in the forecasting business. If he says it's so, you can make book on it.

Land-sea, I guess he covers it all? In my few short years, I have never encountered this sir/sire name. Probably just my paranoia slinking in on me...

Okay, a Dr. Neil Frank story...

I don't remember the year or the hurricane, but it was a category 4 that hit Miami. I was still living in NJ but flew down for the storm, something I did quite often back in those days for some unexplained reason.

The storm hit and was tearing the bejeezus out of Miami Beach. We still had power as everything is underground on the beach and watched Dr. Frank get up on a table when reports started coming in of people heading out during the eye. He yanked off his headset and started raving at the camera, pulling his hair and screaming that people should stay indoors, that things were going to get even worse.

The image of him on that table, hair all frizzed out and shouting, is one I'll never forget.

I thoght they changed it from Global Warming to CLIMATE CHANGE which I feel means Who the heck knows?????????

After years of Florida getting a fair amount of hurricanes , the 70 s and 80s were fairly inactive.

Dr Frank was very annoyed and frustrated with the complacency of the general public over their attitude towards storms.

And he was judge very harshly as being an alarmist.

Take West palm as an example.........Francis was the first direct hurricane to hit Martin and Palm beach county in a long time.

Yet the day after, we had people driving huge suv waiting in line for 45 minuets for water.

How do you end up the day after a hurricane without drinking water ? Complacency ? Or stupidity ?

Many of us don`t really remember all the storms that hit Florida between 1900-----------1970

But most of us heard of Andrew.

Neil Frank was fun to watch. I would have LOVED to been in his household as Katrina was hitting the gulf.

I can just image what he said.

And as far a the climate......... either " global warming " or a natural changes ,

Does it really matter which you believe in ? We all know what the right thing to do is.

After living in Florida for 50+years (yeah, I'm older than dirt!)I was living in Jacksonville when (Dora?)made a direct hit on us. Fortunately, we lived about 20 miles inland and only lost a few shingles. But a few days later, we took a drive down the coast (A1A) It was so sad to see million dollar homes setting on the beach with the tides finishing their demolition. We wondered then, why anyone was allowed to build ANYTHING between the water and the road. But then, there's always someone with enough money to buy even things they shouldn't have, isn't there? I'd love to see a state law enacted that forbid the construction of anything between the ocean and the nearest road. That goes for a lot of the land that's left in this state, too; if it's not vitally necessary (as in a desalination plant, etc.) then you can't build on it, don't bother to ask or offer banks full of money. Okay, I'll get off the soap box. It's just that I've been here long enough to see the horrors development hath wrought. cora

I'm with you, Cora. It makes me shake my head when I see condos built right next to the beach. After they've torn out all the mangroves, they wonder why they have to keep dredging to rebuild the beach after every storm. Crazy folk.
