Despite global warming I'm still in zone 8B.

I'm about 20 miles west of Austin, Tx, and I've lived here since 1981. Early on it was apparent that the roughly 500 ft greater elevation meant my temperatures were colder than Austin's. I've had snow and ice when it only rained in Austin. I got used to passing by many of the plants growing in town. What with global warming I was getting excited that I might be able to grow some zone 9 plants. However, in January we had normal winter cold with several morning lows near 17ºF. Driving around today I noticed every sago palm in the neighborhood looked dead. They might send out new leaves this coming spring, but they were sure brown and burnt looking today. Still, I guess I should be glad the native plants got a more normal fall and winter that they did the past several years.
