My Avocado tree is hurting
Comments (3)I concur with F...I have been raising avo trees for 35 years (I have 20 trees-16 varieties). Avocados are NOT easy to grow. When you re-potted you probably shocked it....roots are extremely sensitive. Make sure your planter mix drains well and always has moisture. Avocados love water, but can not handle flooding/standing water. No intense sun needed until this stressed tree recovers. It may take awhile....but don't give up. You can feed a very dilute fertilizer later...not now....See MoreDid I kill my avocado??
Comments (1)I think it has some life in it don't remove leaves give it a little shade and care for as usual see what happens sunburn can usually be healed make sure if it's a cool July away from frost or cold temps below 45 degrees...See MoreFirst year my Brodgon Avocado produced
Comments (8)Actually most citrus hybrids are polyembryonic and grow true from seed (tangerines, tangelos, etc.) If people want to experiment with seedling cado's or mango's in search of the next great variety or just want an ornamental tree that's fine, but don't make your PRIMARY dooryard fruit trees seedling trees. And especially don't wait 7 years for it for to fruit & then complain you're "surprised" it doesn't taste as good or the same as the parent fruit - most of the time it won't taste as good as the parent fruit. If he had planted a $35 grafted tree 7 years ago as I would have recommended he would be eating delicious fruit now and the tree would have already more than paid for itself and given him fruit sooner. Also big difference between experimenting with vegetable seeds & tree seeds. A tomato or squash seed doesn't take 7 years to determine if it will produce good fruit or take up as much space in the meantime. The goal is to educate others and prevent them from making the same mistakes as others, not in helping to perpetuate them....See MoreNeed Help with My Avocado Tree
Comments (7)BahamaDan ZTropic - Thank you for the feedback. The fertilizer I've been using is worm casting (vermicompost). I don't have a schedule I follow, so I haven't been consistent as I'd like to be. The mulch I had down, prior to the picture were a bunch of leaves from my other plants. I have removed the grass that was surviving near the trunk. I wouldn't be surprised if water and soil is high in alkaline. I'll buy a soil/pH test to confirm. I plan to to use the Iron EDDHA you suggested as well. I also plan on providing this tree actual mulch (wood chips) and a better watering schedule. You have any suggestions on fertilizer I should be using? fireduck(10a) - Thanks for your feedback. I can't wait. I will definitely whitewash the tops and provide better care for this true, especially during the summer months....See Moregatormomx2
