Funny and fabulous is this forum!

This forum amazes me.

Doug offers me tomato sprouts, I offer hot pepper seeds, he states that he has some from Silvia's garden party. lol. The loop is complete.

Sherry offers me free mangoes, I offer life long gratitude and when I'm there she gives me the most cherished, last everglade tomato that she started from a seed from Tom, that is now started in my office and has just grown.

I see Tom's email about cukes, I'm amazed, I go and check my cukes that I've started and note that the marker has a (T) on it which means I got the seeds from him one year when we did a Christmas trade.

I get a surprise gift in the mail from Silvia, so I return the favor, and then see her Italy photos that take me back to Italy and the fabulous food, flavors there.

I go to my screen in porch and see the most beautiful curry tree that Tina gave to me at the garden party last year.

The list goes on and on.....

How funny and lovely that even though I garden in my back yard, in relative solitude, all of you are there with me in shared gifts and memories of your generosity.

This is one of the most giving groups of people I've ever met. I'm so happy to be back where I can garden and share with everyone myself. I've really missed trading and garden parties and all that.

We grew your Santorino's this Fall....Right now I'm growing buckets of your "Brocciflower".... I imagine that's Veronica-ish ?
What-goes-around.....One container "Brocc" went to RockledgeNursingHome....wheelchair bound Paula likes to garden but had nothing but flowers....add a RedCabbageBucket and a heading Cauliflower!

WHO brought that lovely Cuban Oregano cutting/start...I wish it would grow faster....the SMELL.....PIZZA !

And seeds?....WHO submitted the 4 O'clocks?

We've been feasting on Silvia's BroccoliRabb....I'm always snacking in the garden they hardly make it to the kitchen....the Artichoke is visually stunning....gorgeous Red Cabbage in pots.....

Anyone?.....What happened with the Staghorn/pups.....any success stories ?

To top it all off... When we blow the leaves, we blow them across the road because there is a big field right across the road. Well, yesterday I decided to go grab some more leaves before they got taken up by the park manager or waste management. I would suck the leaves back up with my blower, dump them back out when it was full, suck them back up again (which shreds them even finer) and then fill the leaf bags. My neighbors all must have thought I was crazy! A lot of people around here don't understand the value of their fall leaves. They just blow them all out on the road and forget about them. I must have looked like a crazy woman yesterday as I stood there sucking back up the leaves from across the street that were just blown across the street, dumping them back out again and sucking them back up! lol I don't really care what they think, because next year when my garden is flourishing with the help of some leaves, they'll all wonder how I did it! lol

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...

I read this yesterday. Today, I put on a pair of nitrile gloves and started seeding buckets full of hot peppers - red jalapenos and the like - to start a mash for fermenting. I'm doing this outside, face up wind in the breeze, having learned my lessons over the years. So after an hour of this, the cell phone rings, so I dig it out of my pocket with the dripping wet gloves, answer it, then return the phone to pocket, thoroughly coating the phone with hot pepper membrane juice, and keep going. Phone dries off, I finish up the peppers, two hours later,. You can see where this is going........

That is funny. Don't you know he wonders about a lot of the things we do. We deposit our money in banks for security and they tie the pens to the counter. We build garages and park our cars so we can fill our garages with junk, etc.

I agree that your choices will be driven by whether it's a guest space, whether you you have a specific tenant in mind (say a family member) or if you'll be renting to currently unknown and potentially changing tenants. If the occupant is unknown, you don't want to put too much personality into the space because your taste may not be their taste. If it's a guest space it's the opposite--nobody has to live with it for very long so quirky will be charming instead of "what were they thinking?" If you have a specific tenant in mind, keep their tastes in mind. The Design Around This threads have a huge array of designs, and there were specifically a couple of barn/rustic designs, on the white thread and the animal prints thread, I think. If you are on a budget, the formica thread has some great designs as well. I'm Dreaming of a White Kitchen, But... Animal Prints Formica Patterns are coooool!

Hi Doug, I have the very good news to report that my Staghorn is doing very well! I have to take some pictures from the garden soon and see what survived under Willy's and the dogs care,lol. Remember Tiny? he did a good job harvesting peas and the seedlings in the bathroom did not make it but at least the ones outside are doing well. I was going to send postcards from Italy for friends like you guys but I forgot the addresses, I only had the notebook with the emails.

THIS IS THE ONLY FORUM I VISIT EVERY SINGLE DAY, USUALLY MORE THAN ONCE. My gardening activity has declined severely during the past two years, but that's because my back is aging a lot fster than my brain!
My interest is still intense and I DO wish we could arrange another Jacksonville plant swap!

Doug, that is so cool that plants go to a nursing home - that is the most incredible gift!

Silvia, yes, what fun times we have had and hope to have again this spring :-)

Corar, I agree. I can't get myself time to look at other social media but this one I love.

Hi Elizabeth! I'm glad the curry tree is doing well. Doug's staghorn is looking beautiful and Sylvia's Nam Wah and Tom's sweet baby girls and okra, and Sally's bloodleaf and papaya's, and Lori's christmas cacti, and Kathy's pride of barbados, and Diane's cardboard palms, and who was the nice lady who gave me the Jamaican plantain from her grandma? Yes, I have a garden full of generosity too!
