drip irrigation or soaker hoses?

I'd like to make watering a lot easier now that I've planted truck loads of new plants/shrubs/trees/vines. We have no other watering system in our yard.

I have a suburban yard in South Gate in Sarasota. It's wide and not very deep. So there are a lot of distinct areas.

I've used soaker hoses on Cape Cod for many years and have been happy with them, but always wanted a drip irrigation system. It would be fantastic to have some kind of timer system, because I'm not here summer months, but have not been impressed with those attached to a faucet.

I've looked online a bit and this will be a "do it yourself" job.

Any recommendations?
