I may have killed my fig tree. Can anyone help?
Comments (1)Just traumatized. But give it some shade and keep the rootball wet until it can get rooted in. You might need to cut off part of the top as well....See MoreI may have killed my fig tree. Can anyone help?
Comments (2)I can't speak specifically to the issue of a fig tap root, but I got a potted Julie mango from a friend in 1/2 of a rotting oak barrel and when the owner moved it, the tap root broke off also. I put it in the ground immediately and It wilted for a while and sprang back with a bit of extra water. Now it's healthy, but I have to water it more frequently than my other mango trees as it will show wilting stress while my others will not when its dry for a long time. From what I know the taproot serves two purposes, getting deeper water, and resistance to wind. If your fig recovers hopefully it's in a spot that's protected from wind. You may also have to water it more than in the past? My best advice is to not let it die of thirst. Again this has been my experience with a mango and a few ornamental plants, and experts may have a different take on it....See Morewhat is slowly browning then killing my fig tree?

Comments (5)Undoubtedly the leaves have been damaged beyond any resurrective abilities they might have possessed prior to goi8ng through the mini ice age.. Fortunately, all tissues aren't created equal in their ability to tolerate chill. It's POSSIBLE that the plant might come back from shoots that might occur low on the trunk of from more lignified (woody) parts of the tree. You can cut through the stem of each leaf and keep the plant BARELY moist. That is to say, keep the soil deep in the pot barely moist ........... and wait. To ensure the soil is moist, I suggest you use a wooden dowel rod cut in half so it's 2 pieces 24" long. Sharpen both ends of each piece in a pencil sharpener and stick these rods in the soil if you think the plant needs watering. If it comes out dry after a few seconds, it's time to water a bit. If it comes out moist, withhold water until it comes out dry. Time will tell ............. Al...See Morepitangadiego
