yellow or yellow variegated slow growing conifer for strange site

I have a spot low in my front yard I've isolated for a small conifer garden. The current planting plan has a Thuja occidentalis Sunkist Arborvitae which is growing well despite a deer attack and a yellow tipped Leyland Cypress tolerating the area each with a few dwarf purple barberries surrounding them just to emphasize the yellow.

The zoysia grass constantly tries to invade this area, it is wet to the "squishy to step on" or "the riding mower leaves tracks in the grass" point some weeks, and has about 11 hours of sun exposure.

I've killed a Chamaecyparis obtusa "golden hinoki" there because I didn't pay attention to its need for well drained soil.

Is a different Thuja occidentalis cultivar my best way to go to try to maintain variety?
