OT: Catching up with spring photos

Hi friends,

I'm slowly getting back into responding to your posts but the forum is moving so fast & furious lately I can hardly catch up. Many of you are already enjoying daylily blooms while the tulips and daffodils are barely finishing up here and I have been overwhelmed with garden chores. It has been nearly 4 weeks since the dog attack but I still have pain, swelling & the hematoma to deal with. Also lingering nerve damage to my hip. I had no choice but to get out and work in my yard since my daylily orders were coming in and there is a monumental amount of work to do.

I am enjoying all your gorgeous daylily blooms and if I don't comment on each, please know that it is only because I am so busy. No daylilies here until early July, but I have plenty of other flowers to share.

I will start with the TULIPS and daffodils which are just wrapping up, then I will do another post later with other flowers.

Oh I just love it! The tulips are incredibly beautiful and the daffodills are too. Yay for Spring! I'm glad you're feeling better, and I hope it continues to improve for you. The beauty of your garden really is the best medicine. Take care.

The tulips and daffs are glorious Celeste! I love tulips! Sorry you are having to work under less than ideal conditions, but know ho that goes. I especially like the two toned tulips, and the mountian scene is glorious.

Thanks everyone. I did make a mistake on one of my photos. It is really Carolyn Hunt not Carolyn Mann. Celeste, Odd Man Out was hybridized by some friends of mine CJ and Virginia Gregory we are all members of our local daylily club. Their garden is called Dragonwood and I believe they do have a website. Odd Man Out is their first introduction and is a outstanding grower for everyone that has it in there gardens. They also introduced another DL this year that is called Dragonwood Spellbound and it seems to grow just as well as Odd Man Out.

Thanks all. HALF MOON KEY has that color of pink that I just love. Same as NO MORE TEARS. Love them both. And JAMAICAN LOVE is just wowing me this year. Got to get back outside and finish some work we started yesterday. Weather is holding today, ie no rain, just clouds rolling in and out so far although a couple of times we thought we would have a downpour. Might feel good to have cool rain drenching us. LOL Julia

Hey, Kim, is that Deuterochonia brevifolia? I got one of those a few years ago at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden (they have extremely reasonable prices), after seeing an old plant of it there, of course. Not hard to grow (I keep mine dry in winter), but not fast -- steady as it goes. Love the bright green flowers and its texture and sculptural character. No such regulations here in Livermore, either for fire resistance or drought tolerance, but the city did offer incentives for people to convert at least part of their lawns to water-thrifty landscape during the last drought, and people are doing that on their own after the last water rate hikes, anyway. As we are only surrounded by semi-arid grassland, for miles, not woodland, forest, or chaparral, I don't think our city would contemplate regulations like that.

I'm sure you have made many people on the Forum happy with these breathtaking pictures. How you manage to do so much since you have suffered so much adversity is amazing--I am in awe of your ability to take all you have and go forward. Thank you for posting these photos. I know since I can't grow tulips here, you allow me to enjoy them by way of your pics. All of these are wonderful, love tulips and daffodils, and the last shot is glorious. Avedon

Oh Celeste, I am so sorry that you are not yet fully healed. At least hoping that you are much better. But I know what you mean about the garden work pilling up so that one has to get a move on.

What a beautiful view in the last shot. And your tulips, oh wow! Your tulips are just stunning. Pretty daffs too but the tulips are it for me. Love them.

Welcome back Celeste. I really love the riot of tulips in the brick planter. And your last photo makes me yearn for the mountains - I used to live in Montana.

CELESTE: I am so sorry that you are sstill in pain from the dog attack.I know its horrible to be in pain every day,cause I am, too. use to not be as bad as it is now, since a heart DR gave me a very high dose of statin drugs for colestrol.he sure didnt know what he was doing, and I am the one thats paying he price for his blunder. but oh well, I love your tulips, especially th purple ones between them big rocks.Gorgeous.The daffs are very pretty, too, but them tulips really steals the show. i Love your last picture of the mountains, too. I love snow capped mountains.They just so pretty. wonderful pictures celeste and thank you for posting them for us all.

As I said, I would love to respond to everyone individually and to each & every post but there is SO much garden work and Mom and my little grandson to take care of. I'm so, so busy but I will do another post real soon. I love all the beautiful photos you all are posting and thank you for showing them.

Your tulips are gorgeous and rival anything in the Netherlands! We rarely ever see them here in Texas, as they don't survive more than one season.

Your tulips are just fabulous! I especially love the look of the ones that are planted along the side of your house. The raised brick planter is so nice. What do you grow in it after the tulips are done?

I'm so sorry to hear you are still in pain from the dog attack. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Stunning photos as always your tulips are gorgeous and the view of the mountain in spring is outstanding. Little Boy says Hi to Fat Cat Nemo and says to tell him to get digging.
