So what have you ordered so far?

Hi all--I used to stalk this board quite abit but grad school really dampened my enthusiasm for gardening so I was in survival mode for the last couple of years. Now, the end of school is near and I am dreaming of spring and hitting the plant catalogs hard! So what and where have you ordered so far this year? I've placed orders with pickering, bluestone and prairie moon nursery thus far.

Spent far too much money, but its been a while so what the heck. Heres just a smattering of what I ordered--some are new to me and some are long loves:

Lost my list - ha ha! I've just ordered seeds from William Dam, and some seeds from McFayden as well as:
Hemerocallis 'Think Pink' for my granddaughter
Peony 'Red Charm'
Two roses, 'Bill Reid' and 'Prairie Snowdrift'.

Today at Walmart, i bought a pack of 5 bleeding hearts and some calla lilies, both because my granddaughter wants them. I keep saying i don't have room for anything else.... :>

Indoors about a month ago I sowed Mary Washington asparagus in cells, have about 18 seedlings (ca. 75-80% germination), about 6 to 9 inches tall. Couple pots of parsley and thyme were sown at same time and are couple inches tall. Bought one of those plastic clam shells of organic rosemary for $2.49 and stripped the stems apart and rooted in water. Now I have 9 four-inch baby plants, sure beats starting rosemary from seed and waiting forever. Sowed hot and sweet peppers in cells two days ago, also three varieties of tomatoes (some tom seed was nine years old, but it sprouted OK last year...!) Next on the indoor agenda, maybe: chard, kale, scallions, leeks, bok choy. Also maybe lettuces and spinach. Outdoor garden is covered with a foot of frozen compacted snow here in mid-Hudson Valley, so my unheated enclosed porch will have to be a surrogate for the cool-weather crops.

- 22 tomatoes planted out (1 each of Cherokee Chocolate, Omar's Lebanese, White Rabbit, BFG Dark Horse, BFG Nirvana, Gold Medal, Kellogg's Breakfast, Black Krim, BFG Mad Hatter, Amish Paste, Stupice, Persimmon, Shady Lady, Monica, Bobcat, Sunsugar, 6 Sungold) - 20 tomatoes still in their seed starters because I got a really late start (Cherokee Purple, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Isis Candy, Striped German, San Marzano 2, Snow White, plus a tomatillo) - lemon cucumbers (10) - bush beans, Blue Lake (18 - admittedly, not enough, and the slugs will probably get more than I do at this rate) - eggplant, Ichiban (4) - radishes, Reggae and German Giant (45 and 22, respectively, planted as an experiment to see if they'll bulb up with the weather warming up...plus I just wanted something green and fast growing in between the tomatoes) - pineapple tomatillos (3) - garlic chives - pattypan squqsh, Early White Bush (7 - I seeded them all and couldn't bear to let them die, so I stuffed them in where I thought they might fit) - zucchini, cocozelle (4) - pole beans, Kentucky Wonder (70 or so?? I'm not sure... probably too cramped, but they have big teepees to climb up) - Sweet Banana pepper - Habanero pepper - Green Bell pepper - Anaheim pepper - Ancho/poblano pepper - Jalapeno peppers (2 - overwintered from last year, so I don't know if they'll produce at all) - Thai dragon peppers (1 - but overwintered along with the jalapenos, so again, not sure if they'll produce, since the foliage is still just coming in) - kale, lacinato (leftover from this winter, and it hasn't died or bolted yet, so it gets to stay) - collards, vates (same issue as the kale. I had one plant last from late spring last year and into spring this year, so I'll cross my fingers for this one!) - Herbs: mint, oregano, thyme, rosemary, basil, catnip, large leaf parsley I'm waiting on my Tromboncino and Burgess Buttercup squash to germinate, and I'd like to start some Chinese long beans, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Oh, and I'm expecting this to all fit in 144 sq. ft. of raised beds and countless plastic storage totes. Other than the tomato seedlings, everything is planted out, so I just need room for 20 more tomatoes... LOL!

Did we have a worse winter than usual for zone 5? My 1 yr sweet autumn clematis hasn't returned. Another established clematis, type 3, didn't return. If it's Venosa Violacea I'm going to be upset, I have to check my garden "map". My container spruce, which I wrap well each year and made sure to water during warmer temps is really brown. My 2 year Fothergilla Major Mt. Airy died. My 1st year Willow Hakuro Nishiki looks completely dead. My 3rd year Golden Spirit died back to the snow line, but this didn't happen in prior years. My "Grace" came back a real winner, no dieback at all. My Sombreuil Rose bush, which I usually bury the crown, wrap in burlap and cover each winter, though the only thing I did this past winter was cover the crown and nothing more, returned with very little dieback to my amazement. Better than any other year. Go figure. Some hostas, which I was warned last year after purchasing that they aren't hardy, never to be seen again. Some groundcover sedum which probably never had a chance to establish -- nothing. Also lost a Weigela My Monet, thankfully still under warranty. Very Bad year!!!! Oh, and don't fret about the Asters. I had several varieties and they've all disappeared. I suspect it's the rabbits.

In Rocky Mountain Ryan's defense, I'm going to point out definition #1, with an emphasis on the "or impressive dignity". I'm quite confident in my assumption that that was what he meant by venerable. Beyond that, well Ryan, buddy, I think you just stepped in it! ;-)

I was making an order and came up with the dreaded "won't ship to Alaska" sign...I get so frustrated with that. But on the bright side, I went seed shopping locally yesterday, and got most of the seeds I wanted cheaper, anyway. My favorite place to buy seeds locally sells Seeds of Change, Renee's Garden, and Johnny's Seeds at a discount, plus buy 4 get 1 free. AND they didn't have one of the tomatoes I wanted; fortunately they had just put in an order to Renee's Garden, so picked up the phone while I was there and had it added to their order. Now that is service! For anyone reading this in the Anchorage/Valley area, if you haven't checked out Far North Garden Supply for those hard to find seeds, you might try them.
I'm trying growing artichokes from seed this year. I grew them a couple of years ago, but someone else had started the plants and done the difficult work. I hope the ones I start do as well as those did. I also found cayenne pepper seeds yesterday...there are lots of pepper seeds around, but I haven't found cayenne for a couple of years. It's one of my favorite peppers for drying and adding to anything and everything I cook!

How strange is this:I am in Alaska but going back to my home outside Bemidji next month! It is messing up my gardening in two states, haven't been able to plan for much of anything. I did order some more lily bulbs though for shipment to MN. My daughter is a gardener too and has been care-taking our property for us.
@Bemidjigreen-The Hope For Humanity rose, Cuthbert Grant and the Winnepeg Parks all are beautiful roses that grew well for me in the Bemidji and International Falls area. The HHR is the most incredibly gorgeous deep velvety color.
