Is everything planted or sown by now?

I have only seven more plants to set out, and those are six wax beans started to serve as a lure for Mexican bean beetles away from my other beans and a sage plant that I started from seed.

So far, here's what's in the garden as of this morning:

Glad to read about everyones gardening adventures so far this spring. What a great post. It sure makes me realize how different our climates are here in Canada. I do enjoy reading about the weather conditions other places and their gardening challenges or advantages! We had lovely weather last week. I cleaned up all my gardens-removed leaves and other plant debris I leave on to hold the snow there as long as possible. Got the back yard raked and picked up spruce cones out front. I have checked out all my daylilies and pruned my clematis. I put in 6 new clems last fall that were on half price from garden import. At least 4 are coming - one not coming and can't remember where I put the 6th! I've checked out what new signs I need but the ground was still a bit frozen for changing them last week. This week has been wet and I haven't gotten too much done. Now it is just below freezing and I hope everything is okay. We did have a bit of snow last night - just a bit of powder here and there but there is more coming down now. This is supposed to last until tomoorow and then warm up a bit. I only covered a tree peony my daughter gave me for Mother's day last spring. It has come out in bud and I hope it is okay. I have all of my daylily seedlings out on my porch in their covered green house shelves. They got booted out of the basement on April 1st.I lucked out at walmart last fall and bought 5 shelf units for $15 each. I had one last year and it worked great. I just zipped up the plastic cover if it was cold or too windy. I will see what the temp goes down to tonight before deciding if they should come in the garage. I hope not -they are a pain to move now. Yesterday I potted up a bunch of Liliums I had bought that were starting to sprout. I was hoping to just put them in the ground and I should have on Saturday but we were seeding on our farm and I had to work. It's too wet now. I have a bunch of seeds wintersowed that are coming up but they are still in their pots and covered fairly well. They will be fine in this weather. Looking forward to digging up a bunch of old daylilies and splitting them next week when it is warm again. Also finding any other extra perennials to pot up for our Hort Society plant sale. It's good to be getting outside more and seeing the green! Enjoy!

I have about 6 or 7 flats started and mostly doing well. I have 28 tomato plants just put into separate pots (3 varieties: Black Krim, Iidi and Padova). Also, there are 3 flats of coleus, one flat with cuttings from last year's favourites and the other 2 with new seedlings. I'm trying for ones with a lot of yellow in the leaves but not having much luck. But I do have one rather small and weak one with almost completely black leaves. Probably the colour is why it's not growing very fast (not enough chlorophyl),but it seems healthy. I also have lots of baby primulas of 3 kinds. Two sets are in the cold frame as they are from last year, and the others are auriculas from this year. I got the seeds from France and had quite poor germination so I'm watching the plants I did get really closely. For unusuals, I have seedlings of things I collected in parks and nurseries locally. They didn't care if I collected seeds, so I went wild! Now I have red yuccas, pineapple lilies, phormiums, pearly whites (a local wildflower) and eryngium agavafolium.I also have 3 different kinds of penstemons, but while growing, they're very slow and tiny. Let's hope at least some of them survive!

Of Course I have a cheat sheet! You think I ran out the garden every few seconds and then alphabetized them?? lol Actually, Container Ted from the Tomato Forum compiled a fabulous list of tomatoes indicating type, germ days, whether basket/container friendly, how big the plant and the fruit get. You can do a search on the Tom Forum, ask him or I could send you the list I have added to. It was extremely helpful in making selections on what to grow. And don't be overly impressed, for every 6-10 seeds I've planted, I have maybe 1-3 plants that have so far survived. I am teaching myself what to do/not to do etc.

I'd really been wondering when the redbuds would show that first blush of color and finally .... just in the last day or two, they are showing up along the roadsides. A deer visited a few days ago and snacked on some of my tulips :( but the ones that are left are beginning to bloom and they are beautiful! Phlox is now blooming and the hostas are growing fast. I'm now pretty sure that the tree that I thought might be a crabapple is just that, and it looks like another small tree is a redbud (yay). It's fun discovering what's growing here, now that the weather has finally decided to warm up. A neighbor said 12 wild turkeys were in our yard the other day, but we were at work so we missed seeing them. The street we live on is called Turkey Run Drive, so now we now how it got its name :). Oh, and one bit of good news .... they started the dirt work where the building will go, and when they stripped off the bermuda grass the land is mostly nice dirt, with only one little strip of red clay running through it. This may have once been farmland, or a pasture. So that's good news for the vegetable garden. Suzie

I wish I had room to do more, but as it is these veggies are squeezed into a small area.

I'm in the process of harvesting the turnips and onions. My onions never bulbed-up, they look like giant leeks. Maybe they are.

Very interesting thread. You can almost tell where people live by what they have planted!

Beans: Jade (will be ready for first picking tomorrow)
Dragons Tongue (first picking last week. Contrary to the seed packet, they are not pole beans, but bush beans.)
Poles: Kentucky Wonder, and Louisiana Purple Pod
Cowpeas: Mississippi Cream and Pink Eye Purple Hull
When the bush beans are done in June, I will replace them with Dixie Butterpeas.

Cucumbers (2, each 1 planted 6 weeks apart): Spacemaster and Salad Bush

- 20 tomatoes still in their seed starters because I got a really late start (Cherokee Purple, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Isis Candy, Striped German, San Marzano 2, Snow White, plus a tomatillo)

- bush beans, Blue Lake (18 - admittedly, not enough, and the slugs will probably get more than I do at this rate)

I'm waiting on my Tromboncino and Burgess Buttercup squash to germinate, and I'd like to start some Chinese long beans, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Oh, and I'm expecting this to all fit in 144 sq. ft. of raised beds and countless plastic storage totes. Other than the tomato seedlings, everything is planted out, so I just need room for 20 more tomatoes... LOL!

I have to ask spaghetina,
What are pineapple tomatillos? I had green ones last year and the flea beetles about ate them up.

As far as I've been able to ascertain, they're kind of like ground cherries or cape gooseberries. There seem to be a lot of different physalis varieties, and a lot of them produce fruit that sound very similar. They grow like the green tomatillos, in that there's a husk, but the fruits are smaller, ripen to a golden yellow, and are supposed to be very sweet.

I actually bought these without looking closely enough, thinking they were the regular green tomatillo plants. All I saw was "tomatillo" on the side of the pot, and into my cart they went - my eyes completely ignored the glaring "pineapple" that preceded it, lol. I should have known they weren't when I saw the flowers (teeny tiny) and the equally tiny husks, but I was kind of elated at my mistake because I'd been wanting to try ground cherries and never got around to buying seeds.

I call it serendipity. :)

Well, for us down here in the south(zone 8+++) the cool crop season is over.
I have only some broccolies just heading. I have the followings:

HERBS: Parsley, basils, tarragon, chives, oregano, marjoram, summer and winter savory, sage, mints, lemon grass, shiso(red, green), dill.

OTHER:
Tomatoes(10 var, 30plts), peppers(10 var, 40plts), cukes(3var, 10plts), potatoes(3var, 10plts),
eggplants(4var., 12plts), squash (1), Onions(200, yell, red), tomatillo(1),
Beans(4var, 15plts), Garlis(30), leeks...peas are done.

I AM HARVESTING:cukes, beans, eggplants, onions, garlics, all the herbs listed, squash, potatoes
Tomatoes, hopefuly in a week or so.

Oh, maybe this will distract me from what's left to plant and make me feel good about what I've accomplished so far. I really only get to garden on weekends. In no particular order, and only the edibles:

Broccoli rabe
Tomatoes (9 varieties)
Sweet peppers (5 varieties)
Sugar snap peas
Snow peas
8 varieties of lettuce (ongoing)
Swiss Chard (including an experiment with "container chard" from Renee's Garden Seeds)
Red Mustard Greens
Strawberries - 3 hanging baskets
Basil (12 different varieties)
Herbs (Thyme, Oregano, Chervil, Cilantro, Cumin, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Dill, Chives (regular and garlic)
Two beach plum trees
Potatoes (an experiment with potato grow bags - so far they are going gangbusters)
Onions

What is scary is the "yet to do" list isn't a whole lot shorter. Remember I only have a very small city yard.
